Yeap, three doors!?
A few months ago, I bought a huge vintage lot from Germany. The sets mixed in
the lot were in near complete condition. I was curious to find out three red
doors (3 left and 3 right) with stickers of 164 attached to them. In the lot,
there were parts for set
we only find sets 164 and 1601 as alternative. The other alternative sets were
dacta set 1053-1 from 1984 and 735-1 and 4031-1 from 90s. There are multiple
altenative models on the box arts but no model clearly show 3 doors applied.
My conclusion was that either one of the models used 3 doors but the image is
not printed from the right angle, or another altenative model with 3 doors was
created but it did not not make it to the box and instructions arts.
I was so happy to see a used set in perfect condition, probably used once or
twice, in which there are three doors and a few extra parts, in which in confirms
all the previous inventory changes from 2020 onwards (all based on the box and
insturctions)

The quantity of a few other bricks are different two. So far, I could only confirm
there were 14 yellow plates 1x2 used on the model that appears on the catalog
(and bricklink's image of the set's model), and on the side of the box.
I can imagine 4 black plates 1x8 were used in one of the alternate models, on
the first layer of a train car similar to one of models shown in the instructions.

An used copy in good condition also shows these parts and checking the instructions
we can accept that some construction is mirrored on the other side in this case.
