It used to be a simple matter of carefully twisting & slightly tugging on the
chain (where it meets the head) to unscrew the keychain from a Lego Minifigure
Keychain.

My son has a new Shadow Lego Minifigure Keychain & he wants to remove the keychain
portion.
I've twisted & tugged, over & over, but the keychain will not unscrew. I'm
wondering if Lego is now using screw locks to keep the keychains on.

Does anyone know:
1. When Lego changed this?
2. Is it still possible to remove the keychain from the minifigure?

For quite a few years now, LEGO has not used spiral threaded screws to attach
the keychain to the minifig's head. Instead they use a metal pin with ridges,
similar to a barbed plumbing fitting. There are a few different ways to remove
the keychain, and the following site described them all:

Thank you for the reply & link David.

Unfortunately, by the time I read your reply (on the 5th), my son was too impatient
& had already cut off the chain close to the head (I did not know this). It
doesn't look great, but that's on him.

I especially like #3, the soldering iron method. I'll be saving the article
for the next time someone in the house gets a Lego Minifigure Keychain.

Thanks again.
