I just read about that BL login and Lego ID will be merged.
However, the explanation about the names really confuses me:
Eventually, your LEGO Account nickname will become your public username on
BrickLink.
Fine.
If your current username or store name doesn’t meet our guidelines for LEGO
Account nicknames,
That confused me. As stated above, my Lego account nickname will become my public
username in BL. Imho, this means, the BL name will be replaced. So why should
I check this (then) old name for compliance, if it will be replaced by my Lego
ID nickname?
we recommend updating it as soon as possible to secure your preferred name.
How can I do that? I cannot find an option to change my BL name in the account
settings, and I also can't find anything about it in the help section.

The check is done by the lego website itself.

You can change your nickname on Lego but they have fairly strict rules on naming.
You can go to Account settings and select to edit your name and avatar.
Mine was rejected presumably because it has bricks in it but i don't know.
I have appealed and will see but yes you will have to change you BL username
if you cannot get the same name on Lego

Would be very surprised if the word 'bricks' was the cause for rejection?
Hate to think how many people that would affect if that were the case as there
are very few words you can use to identify yourself as a lego seller without
using words like bricks or blocks.
Either way it would be helfpul if Lego was more specific about the exact text
within the name that is being rejected so people ar'nt left having to second
guess and potentially changing parts of their name that ar'nt the issue!

Yes, if “Bricks” is not a problem, then what’s the problem in “Lapinou Bricks”?
Also, they say they don’t want identifying info in there… I’ve been SylvainLS
there for years and some people have their real names as nickname (just a bit
different from their LEGO username). I use firstnameInitials but some use initialsLastname.
IOW: the rules are dumb and they are applied inconsistently.

"It is foreign. So they must be hiding something."
That one is a bit bizarre, unless someone else has already taken it and LEGO
are showing the wrong reason for rejecting it.

Maybe they don't recognize Sylvain as a person's name. But wait until
they think you are infringing the IP of Sylvanian Families.

Not having identifiable information in a public displayed nickname is probably
not a bad idea for a rule, especially as the same login / identity system is
used for displaying the nicknames of users that are children.

Yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me if “bunny” was acceptable, even though PlayBoy
girls are not called “lapinous” in French (would be “lapinettes” or something
too, because “lapinou” is masculine).

Yes, badly implemented… like the DSA reports here that call everything “item”
and reject with “item authorized” 🙄

True, and that my nickname was accepted at the time is proof their implementation
is dumb (obviously, not everything is checked by humans, but seeing that my firstname
starts my nickname is obvious, I even capitalized everything to make it more
visible!).
I was actually surprised it went through when I set it

Having "brick" in the name is fine, but I don't know about "bricks".
I wonder if some of the nicknames being rejected are because they are duplicates
of already taken names. LEGO first announced this two and a half years ago and
told us to reserve nicknames before they opened it up to others. It could well
be that in the meantime other people reserved the name used by a BL store if
they didn't act when first told about it.
While I admit I have a very generic store name and meant to change often but
became harder as sold more, I find it funny that LEGO auto declines the word
"brick" because it can insinuate illegal activity. I received this auto
response on their site when trying to register BrickbyBrick...:
"Your nickname was rejected"..."Your post goes against our Code of
Conduct because it's about illegal activities."

When I tried to change my Lego account name to "TheBrickGuys" I received
the same message but there was button that allowed me to challenge their initial
ruling that the name went against their code of conduct and the very next day
TheBrickGuys was approved.

It’s not your BL username you need to check and change, it’s your LEGO ID nickname.
You need to change it to be like your BL username so that your BL username won’t
change when the merge happen.
But as the LEGO nickname is more restricted, maybe it won’t be accepted, and
then you’ll have to choose another one and that one will be used for BL too.
Ok thanks, so the original statement is really confusing and capable of being
misunderstood.
Right now, I'm fine with my Lego ID nickname.
So if I do nothing, it will replace my BL name, is this correct?
That is correct, your LEGO Account nickname will eventually replace your BrickLink
username.
I just set up an account at the official Lego site and the auto generated nickname
it gave me is 24 characters long. When I went to my account on bricklink and
tried inputting my Lego nickname I was limited to 15 characters. Anyone else
have this issue? Will this issue be addressed before, during, or after integration?
I don't want to be locked out of my account when integration occurs.

Don't worry about changing your ID on the BrickLink site, the LEGO Account
nickname will override it when the merge is done.

You won't be locked out of your account. The names themselves are not merging
when LEGO Account integration launches this year, they will merge in the future.

I'm confused, so two questions...
Why is BRICK acceptable, but BRICKS is not?
Since the store url is based on the username, what happens to that url post merge?
