The list of all items marked for deletion is here: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?itemObsolete=Y&v=3
I'm just wondering what the rules are with items marked for deletion. When
will they actually be deleted?
Is it a time frame or sellers no longer listing these or something else?
And for history records: is BL maintaining a list of deleted items?

As far as I know, all stores with items marked for deletion for sale must,
A. Delete it from the store
B. Sell it and then wait 6 months For the order to be purged.
C. Remove it from the stock room if they added it there.
Then once a item has met one of those guidelines then it will be ready for deletion,
the next step after which is an admin just needs to delete it.

I would say no, as when deleted it's deleted, so you can't link to it
anymore.
But maybe there's a feature I don't know.
But Administration may have this log, like in case of, to be able to restore
it for example? Don't know.

I think they don’t delete the entries but merge them in a special “all the deleted
stuff” entry.
Or is that what they did and are now not deleting anything anymore?
I remember the cat people meowing about that….

They did delete some cmf figs that were listed with accessories as figs that
were marked for deletion a long time ago and deleted them like a year ago or
so, so it is still being done on occasion

They don't do it much.
There is definitely no deadline. As long as someone has it in their inventory,
I think it stays.

A lot are marked for deletion because of splits of entries and actually can be

Exactly: BrickLink can't both delete a Catalog entry and a seller have a
Cataloged item listed.
So it can take years, up to forever.
And even when it appears to a regular user that there are none left listed or
sold you can't see those in closed stores.
Apart if at one moment they force clean it - not sure Catalog people can, that's

Yes in those cases the site admins (not us catalog admins) have the power to
do this.

There is no going back. That's why it's not done all that often.

Thanks for the clear explanation. The biggest bottleneck is therefore closed
stores that have the item in their stock.

While diving into the pool of items marked for deletion, I came across a couple
of items where it's stated by a catmin that the item will not be deleted,
like this one and it's sisters:
The comment says: "The entry has been marked for deletion solely to prevent
any commercial use. There are no plans to actually delete it."
I'm confused...

The PaB entries have been created to have a known source for some parts & colours.
That way we are sure the part exists in that colour.
But a seller shouldn’t be able to sell “PaB 2022” because that’s not a set/gear/….
So the easy solution is to mark pab2022 for deletion because items marked for
deletion can’t be added to a store.

existence of the category 'marked for deletion'
