The 4 black 1x8 plates are used in an alternate model.
The old brick black 2x4 should be alternate because it was only produced since
1984 but this set was first produced in 1980.
I bought this set from USA. Opened its motor and checked its production date:

I had thought this set was not longer produced since 1985, but it seems it was
still produced for the North America market in 1985.
In my copy there were 7 black magnets instead of 6! Not sure if we can consider
one to be extra.
The length of wire (wire alone) is about 20cm, once proving 28 studs is the correct
length.
