I have received, and filled, the last order. My store is now closed.
A while back I alluded to the fact that buyers never look at the store terms.
To that end, earlier in the year, I made a small change to my store's terms,
and inserted an Easter Egg. No one ever read it, nor followed the recommended
course of action. I thought at least one person would have found it, but no one
did. My hunch was confirmed.

Congratulations on a successful store on Bricklink for so long. It is impressive.

Never is a broad brush.
I have had the terms shown below since February 1st, 2024, and received multiple
comments on it. I did not think of offering a prize.

Yes - it's well known on BrickLink! Someone already tested this (Troy - Mnemeth
-, iirc?) while saying "I make you a $10 rebate/refund if you read this in
my Terms ..."
Another fun fact; along those years hundreds of buyers complained in our shop
about missing parts, hundreds!
Statistically, that means hundreds should have complained having received too
much, because there's no reason we could always ship less than the requested
qty.
But as you can guess... almost no one did; maybe 1 or 2 within 18 years (and
for a BIG mistake from us)

None of the stores I bought from did anything like that 😭

Well, I never “complained” about too many parts… but I generally tell the seller,
especially as they often miscounted the other way too, for other lots. So I
complain for some and inform for the others
And, about the “too manies,” they generally answer “it’s okay” or even ”it on
purpose.” So there’s not much incentive to do it.
Also, contrarily to what you say, it’s not a self-evident, and even less proven,
that a seller would make as many positive errors (parts too many) as negative
ones (parts missing).
There’s other factors at play. It’s not random.
There’s some orders that will very rarely have extra parts but may be missing
entire lots, for instance orders with many small lots.
And there’s some orders that will be the opposite, for instance orders with few
but big lots of inexpensive parts, and when the sellers use scales and are “generous”
to compensate any error and avoid dying of boreness when recounting.
If there were as many orders of each type, you could be right… but I don’t think
so.

I knew you were to argue on this.
Your theory could be OK for the eventual missing lot when there are many lots
(it's very rare almost never here because you've to validate the picking
and it's timed, so you can't pick too fast - or too long).
But otherwise when counting manually (visually) there's probably a quite
equal chance to ship instead of 12: 13 or 11.
And yes, on big quantities we may even give a bit more than less.
So, statistically there should have been hundreds of complains
But no, it's different.
Right now, we apparently missed 2 parts on 900, all hand counted - and just received
(minutes ago) an NSS Alert for this
People don't realize a list is (said) exact, but picking is still an human
activity. Personnaly I wouldn't complain for 5 cents or 0.01% of an human
job.

Hundreds of “informings!” Again, nothing to complain about here

New buyer?
I think it’s because it’s not very clear what a buyer should do in case of problems.
But, anyway, people don’t read terms or help or any text really. They just skim
over all that, looking for keywords… at best.

Yes, it's a 0 FB, of course it must be this.
I hope, otherwise he'll be a -1 soon
Joking also.
But yes, no. Say half joking? I'm upset right now. It'll be over tomorrow.

2/900 = 0.22%
Don't worry Einstein, you're already stop listed in my shop!

When I first started buying I did the same, messages about mistakes either way,
cause I keep an exact inventory of most of my Lego and assumed other people also
do. Now I only mention it if it's a big issue, say $1+ parts missing or
extra. Cause even if it's not a problem for me, if I get half a dozen minifigs
unintentionally, it's a heads up that another order might be missing some
lots...

Take care, Nita Rae!

NR
I ordered from a shop that had a similar inclusion. But by the time I actually
placed my order I forgot about it, so I didn't get a discount.
