I've purchased through merchants online that use PayPal as the processor,
and have not needed to create a paypal account as I can pay as a guest and type
in my credit card and away we go. Years ago I had PP, but not anymore, and it
appears that when trying to purchase from stores here, I am forced to create
a PayPal account, and there is no option in the PayPal window to "pay as
guest". Yet I purchased from another online source in the past month and
that option was available - either pay as guest or sign into PayPal and pay with
your account. Why hasn't Bricklink enabled paying as a guest?

I imagine most of it is inertia. They have paypal set up in that way, it works
fine and they don't change.
But I did read an article, must have been 6 or 7 years ago, about rates of fraud
claims for accounts vs guest checkouts and it was higher for the latter. I guess
this is understandable in that if you use a paypal account you need the password,
whereas guest checkouts only need the card so a kid can use their parent's
card without permission then this gets reported as a fraudulent transaction.
Bricklink is also different to some other retailers in that you must have a BL
account to order whereas some sites allow guest checkout at their site as well
as paypal guest payments. If you are going to buy even slightly frequently it
makes sense to have a PP account. And I guess if you are not going to buy very
frequently then you don't really matter that much.
