I wanted to buy your Millennium Falcon Item No: 75257 and I had some questions.
I tried to message you but was blocked by the system.
I realize now it's not your fault, but it's a red flag and I won't
buy off a site that won't even let me message the seller.
It's a normal and recent protection against brand new users that uses the
system to literally flood the sellers of spam messages.
As a buyer, you SHOULD use PayPal for payment, check the seller's Terms and
Feedback profile, check condition and price of the item.
About this seller I don't see any problem, so again - using PayPal - simply
buy this Set, it's New and sealed. Note New doesn't mean Mint, but if
there's an external damage, sellers usually (should anyway) write it in item
description.
Otherwise, simply pay a bit more in a reputed shop and that's it. You the
more often don't need to "communicate" with sellers, especially for
simple problems.

I'm 100% sure there are measures on other sites, like eBay, regarding new
accounts.
The item may very well be near mint but if I'm paying you money, I have the
right to be able to talk to you if I have questions or want to see some pics

Yes/no - you're asking far too much IMO.
You wish a close to perfect item? Buy it at LEGO shop at home: $169 (maybe) and
that's it.
Here you can find it New and Sealed for cheaper, be happy of this, and if you
don't need Mint for Collection, it'll be fine enough to build/play and
FAR cheaper.
Many sellers, include me, don't provide pictures and would reply negatively
to such demands.
BrickLink has high quality standards, and lower prices.
This Set isn't an old retired Set you could inquire on, it's still for
sale on LEGO.
So again, either pay the premium at LEGO, or accept the BrickLink definition
of New and get a far cheaper one which is probably as perfect as LEGO (sometimes
even better due to they delivery problems)?

Ebay doesn't restrict the buyer from contacting the seller with questions, in fact they encourage it. No other site I've heard of, Amazon, Poshmark, Facebook, etc. Restricts any buyer from contacting the seller.

If the seller says there's a crease here, a dent here that's fine. Then
I know what to expect, there is nothing unreasonable about wanting to contact
the seller about something they have for sale.
Here you can find it New and Sealed for cheaper, be happy of this, and if you

Ahh, yes for building it wouldn't matter. Most of the things I collect, whether
it be cars, coins, comics, toys, soldiers, etc. I buy it and put it into storage.
The majority of the things that I've collected over the years have been sitting
in storage from the time I bought it. I'm more of a hoarder collector...lol.
Since I was young, I've always just bought whatever catches my eye.
Many sellers, include me, don't provide pictures and would reply negatively
to such demands.
Why would you buy something you can't see especially if it's the first
time buying off an independent? Forgive me but that's insane? If I can't
see what I'm actually buying, I won't buy it.

I have high standards when it comes to purchasing collectibles. I've never

& taxes are taken into account.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and no offence, but I don't know this
site, or the sellers from a hole in the wall. It's not much of a savings
for what I want here and everywhere else but here, it seems, it's not unreasonable
to ask a seller to answer some questions or provide a few pics before you buy.
Elvis your requests are very reasonable and sensible.

questions are generally fine but I believe 1001bricks is referring to pictures.
many sellers do not provide images as that is not "standard" practice.
Some may do it but even for sets its not a guarantee or required.

I have high standards when it comes to purchasing collectibles. I've never
collected Lego's before. I saw the set, I like the way it looks. I won't
open or build it. I would just hold on to it. Keep it as more of an investment,
maybe sell it down the road sometime. I've heard Lego sets tend to hold their
value over time so that's good.
It won't be a very good set for investment. LEGO will keep re-releasing minifig
scale Millennium Falcon sets. That and the X-wing are iconic sets and will be
redone again and again.
The "LEGO is a good investment" idea is also becoming less and less true,
as so many people not into LEGO read it and believe it and think they can buy
any set and make loads of profit by sitting on it for a while.

Thanks Yorbrick, as a newbie to Lego this advice is helpful.
I'm not really interested in selling Lego as a business or side Hussle, those
days are behind me.
These days if I'm selling, I'm just thinning out my collections. I have
always been more of a collector hoarder, I've always bought stuff that catch
my eye at the time, whether it be comics, coins, stamps, statues, action figures,
diecast cars, toy soldiers, etc etc., and just store them in boxes...lol. The
falcon caught my eye and well...
I'm 100% sure there are measures on other sites, like eBay, regarding new
accounts.
Not stopping you contacting a seller.
I have bumped up against flood control this week. I don't what the limit
is. I mainly communicate with admin on catalog issues and sometimes contact
sellers with research questions.
I've had to go check my email 3-4 times to get a code to log in.
I get a lot of orders from 0 feedback users since so many stores won't allow
them to buy. So now Bricklink doesn't let them talk either?
I don't see any of these things on other websites. I do understand that
Bricklink suffered a trauma a year ago, but this doesn't make me feel safe.
It makes me feel irritated.

Sorry, never encountered this simply because almost never contact anyone.
Either message in order or e-mail, it's fine.
Couple of times send a Contact to a seller for questions about B2B invoicing
for instance.
But yes, I don't know about the problem.
The solution to completely block the buyer to contact isn't the proper one;
I'd guess (hope) it's a temporary counter measure because otherwise it'd
need some reflections, meetings, and development, testing, quality bla bla?

Hi Rebellious,
I'm in Canada, so is Rhino.
To buy from Rhino with shipping = $195
To buy from the retailer with
taxes, shipping included = $203
I was all set to order from them when I came across this site. I added Rhino's
falcon to the cart and messaged him some questions and the system waited until
I typed everything out and hit send before telling me I couldn't send, lol....ticked
me off...heh

Yeah I don't blame you, the messaging and forum on this site are year 2k
vintage and have needed an update for years, despite the few very vocal supporters.
Instead of something like blocking how many messages you can send as a new user
they apparently just shut them all down which is a poor solution on a marketplace
site with many buyers and sellers.
But just to note, Bricklink is an overall fantastic place to buy from other collectors
who love Lego too!

+1. fully blocking contact for new members is a very unfortunate approach that
started several weeks back. (tho understandable considering the spam but hopefully
a more "subtle" approach can be taken as otherwise it will start to hurt
the site more and more)

They should have a message letting new members know what is going on when they
join so they can still function normally.

They should have a message letting new members know what is going on when they

They can’t: it’s a secret!
Buying, not saying how to get around bans and post on the forum, just saying
that contact will be limited and that new buyers will have to use the instant
checkout.
[…]
Instead of something like blocking how many messages you can send as a new user […]
New users (fire helmet) were already limited to 5 (or about) messages a day.
It apparently didn’t work 🤷♂️
The sauce has slipped through the spaghetti code
By “didn’t work,” I meant it wasn’t efficient against spammers. Because it did
work in the sense that it limited the number of messages new users could send.
We regularly (but rarely) had a few messages on the forum from a new user hitting
the limit.

I originally made a statement about how I feel about not being able to contact
a seller, it's stupid to punish all new buyers. Can you not just block a
spammer on this site??
Anyway, apparently your need to make useless, unsolicited comments to create
drama in your own mind takes precedence over contributing to the conversation.
How about you just mind your own business and stay out of mine.
I wanted to buy your Millennium Falcon Item No: 75257 and I had some questions.
I tried to message you but was blocked by the system.
I realize now it's not your fault, but it's a red flag and I won't
buy off a site that won't even let me message the seller.
I think the site will survive without you. And maybe your apparent need for drama
it is a good thing you move on.

It's an international and easy to register website.
Spammers aren't 1 or a couple, but maybe thousands new ones every day.
There no way dedicated humans will decide who's cool and who's a scammer,
and for EACH message attempts of those numerous people who register.
So this measure.
But please be sure once you've made a cool transaction (even cents, buying
or selling), your life will be easier.

Please also consider BrickLink differences.
It's easy to come, cheap to buy, expert in Catalog (definitely the best of

Apart this, yes, it could feel different, like this Forum aspect.

Hi there and thanks for your reply, actually very helpful, I will look at those
links.
I'm getting the feeling this is a very niche group and you saying this is
a single man website makes more sense now.
This is a very small site compared to the likes of Amazon, Ebay & Facebook. Scammers
are rampant on those sites and in the case of Amazon and Ebay it's the sellers
that get scammed the most so if this site helps to protect the sellers than that's
a good thing.
I won't buy this set here but perhaps in the future I'll take your advice
and might take a chance on a cheaper set.

The most difficult is to protect the buyers, yes, there are some black sheep

Again, check the seller's feedbacks profile, check terms, if any doubt ask
in forum.

This website has been up and running for a very long time without you and will
continue to do so. There is absolutely no guarantee you will get a mint box
from Lego itself and even lesser buying from any big box retailer. Your telling
us that you won't be buying here because you can't contact a seller is
the same as saying "I am taking my ball and going home".
My goodness, we get that your a long time Bricklink member and no doubt feel
some responsibility in protecting this site (as do I and a lot of other people),
but your responses came across very hostile and crotchety and offered nothing
productive or helpful.

And you are correct, I won't be buying this particular set here because I
can't contact the seller, someone I don't know and have never heard of,
with my questions and to ask them for some actual pics.
So to use your analogy correctly, I'm saying " I am taking my ball (money)

You don't need to reply, I already paid the 8 buck difference and ordered
the set elsewhere. Moving on.

It’s gotta be frustrating. Especially with it being your maiden voyage into what
is a sea of available LEGO product, that is BrickLink.
Stay or go, but consider that which you experienced was perhaps merely an ill-advised
response to a recent attack of sorts, no more. It will doubtless get smoothed-out.
If you're a fan of LEGO, it’s worth hanging around, imho. Not just for the
marketplace either, but for the community of shared interest and the level of
LEGO expertise difficult to find elsewhere. As to your forum experience: Seas
will have storms from time-to-time, too But you seem very capable of weathering

To be clear, I wasn't trying to sell anything here, I was trying to buy a
set. I complained about not being able to contact the seller with my questions.
I was saying, he, through no fault of his own, lost a sale.
but, Like you, the other guy from Texas just attacked and I got provoked but
the novelty is over now and I can't be bothered.
For those that made helpful posts, thank you and i appreciate all of your replies.

Yes, this is too bad that you cannot contact a seller as a new member. Of course,
you should be able to.
Some context: The site has recently been absolutely flooded with scams and phishing
attempts. They need to build a way to deal with this new threat, but the pace
of change around here is slow. This ban on new members is just a heavy-handed
approach to stave off a major issue.
There are some things you can do if you want to participate. This site is worth
sticking around for, trust me.
You can post a polite message here and ask one of us to notify your seller about
it. It's an awkward workaround but it's an option.
You can wait a bit and see if the ban is lifted or if some period of time needs
to pass for you to achieve full membership.
You can get annoyed with the state of things and the people who kinda pounced
on your slightly snarky post and head back out into the internet.
Good luck,
~Jen
ps. If you are one of the phishers trying to find a way to around the phishing
ban then please disregard all my advice.

Hi Jen,
Thanks for the reply. No I'm not a phisher heh. It was only an $8 difference
in price so I just ordered the set from the site I was originally planning to
before I found here.
Someone else suggested trying to buy a cheaper set or something from here and
I may do that another time.
I do have a question though, you say the site has been flooded with scammers.
I have no doubt you get scammers here, it's part of the reason I want to
talk to the seller. My question is, the sites I sell and buy on normally are
way bigger than this site. On them, the scammers are rampant but as an individual
seller/buyer, I don't get a flood of them. Why do you think you guys are
getting so many?

We don’t get many scammers of the “I’ve a bridge to sell you” kind. Those are
limited by the new seller verification procedure, and the watchfulness from the
members.
What we are having since recently is a flood of new users who impersonate BrickLink
adminstration and who send messages to sellers to make them give info and money
to get “verified” or to fix an error in a bogus transaction.

Good question….
Ahh ok thanks for the reply.
I know Youtube gets a lot of that. Personally, I've not had that particular
situation happen to me but I have heard the scammers tend to target new sellers.
When ebay first started it used to be the buyers who got scammed a lot by sellers.
Nowadays it's the seller who often gets screwed.

Generally speaking, it's a bigger problem for stores which is why they're
taking action to limit messages from new users. I'm not going in to the
specifics but they're basically trying to gain access to our store accounts
and by virtue, our payment processing info.
However as a BUYER, you need to be cautious too. If the price seems too good
to be true, it probably is. It's kind of a PITA to open a store on BL and
it's not that hard to have your store shut down either. A vast number of
stores on here started with single digit feedback since you have to have at least
a 1 in order to open a store, so don't let that alone dissuade you.
Instead look for other major red flags such as; Are they offering rare/vintage
sets at a price well below everyone else? Did they just open in the past few
days (or even today) and 15 orders? Do they have a recent spat of neutral/negative
feedbacks claiming to be a NSS (Non-Shipping Seller)? Do they only sell sought
after minifigs/sets and nothing else?
If you answer any of those in the affirmative, proceed with caution and only
use paypal onsite.

Thank you, and everyone, for the replies. This thread has gotten bigger than
I expected lol.
Yes only use paypal, and don't use friends and family. Paypal will side with
the buyer, like ebay, amazon and the rest.

Not to be flippant, but that's totally your prerogative.
I wanted to buy your Millennium Falcon Item No: 75257 and I had some questions.
Just about any seller on here will tell you that buyers who ask questions have
an extremely low conversion rate (about 3% from my own experience). Most of
the time the questions are completely superfluous which is extremely annoying
to begin with. Such as asking if the set is complete with minifigs when it's
listed as New Complete or New Sealed. If the seller listed it incorrectly, then
you as the buyer have better rights and leverage than you would on other sites
such as filing an NSS since they technically didn't ship you a completed
set. If a store gets a few of those they're banned from the site.
Other common questions are for photos - especially if it's already explicitly
stated that the box has any damage since at least 50% of sets shipped by LEGO
arrive with some damage due to the GWP's. It sounds like you and I are alike,
I'm extremely anal retentive and a perfectionist. So I list everything in
the description that could be wrong with something. Then I have someone ask
for a photo, I spend the 5-10 minutes setting everything up, taking the shots,
emailing them and then the person just ghosts me.
Another common one is "what's the shipping cost going to be?" Well,
if you proceed through the check out, most stores worth their salt will have
a shipping price in your total. (Rhino is relatively new and they may still
be working out the kinks with their shipping costs because it's a precise
science getting the rate to within 50-cents of actual.) People often send me
messages asking if my shipping prices are correct because they think it's
high (even though I explicitly state in my terms that I automatically kick back
a partial refund if I egregiously overcharge for shipping). I'll spend the
time packing up the set/items in to the right box, enter all the info in to a
site, get a rate, send them a screenshot from the deep discount shipping websites
showing all the package details and the various rates and shipping options and
100% of the time the best/fastest rate is +/- 45-cents. Then they ghost me.
My favorite is when someone says they have "a large/expensive order in my
cart" and they want to know if I can give them a discount. Or they ask if
I can drop my price on something by 10-20%. Sure, yea I could do that; but I'm
not going to.
All that said, I love my 0 feedback buyers. They're usually terrible about
remembering to leave feedback because they're new, but they are genuinely
low hassle and they buy a lot since they just discovered this site and
how easy it is to buy hard to find parts/set. The 75313 from August for $775
was mine that went to a 0 feedbacker that never sent me a message or read any
of mine.
I'll take Bricklink any day of the week over the alternatives and you will
too eventually.

I get that a lot myself. When I sell any of my collectibles I take my time to
describe condition based on what I would look for myself.
More often than not, I get questions I've already answered in the description,
they just didn't read it. I still reply to them with the answer 'As stated

a partial refund if I egregiously overcharge for shipping).
Yeah, I don't mind being charged a handling fee if it's reasonable. Do
you buy off online auction sites like HiBid? Some of the auction houses charge
ridiculous handling fees.
My favorite is when someone says they have "a large/expensive order in my
cart" and they want to know if I can give them a discount. Or they ask if
I can drop my price on something by 10-20%. Sure, yea I could do that; but I'm
not going to.
I'd say that happens for about 85% of the collectibles I've sold. I usually
use recent ebay sold listings, current listings and google to determine FMV where
possible. Some of my rarer stuff is harder to price. Thing is now, as has always
been, it's only worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it and what the
buyer is willing to let it go for.
All that said, I love my 0 feedback buyers. They're usually terrible about
remembering to leave feedback because they're new, but they are genuinely
low hassle and they buy a lot since they just discovered this site and
how easy it is to buy hard to find parts/set. The 75313 from August for $775
was mine that went to a 0 feedbacker that never sent me a message or read any
of mine.
Nice.
I'll take Bricklink any day of the week over the alternatives and you will
too eventually.
Well, as far as I can remember, this is the first Lego I've bought. When
I get it, it will go in a box. I read that Lego is a good investment, I don't
know much about Lego but I may pick up some more Black Friday deals if I find
them.
I wanted to buy your Millennium Falcon Item No: 75257 and I had some questions.
I tried to message you but was blocked by the system.
I realize now it's not your fault, but it's a red flag and I won't
buy off a site that won't even let me message the seller.
I’m suppose to believe a new seller that opened an account just yesterday, spent
hours conversing in a forum telling us how upset he is about a new Bricklink
policy. Maybe we need a policy you can’t post here until you buy something.
Genious! Or sell something for Moderators! That'd exclude some here

Geez, Louise, people. Take the tin foil hats off. This is getting ridiculous.

And cars wouldn't be able to turn unless the blinker is activated - that'd
be nice!

That's a good decision!
Sorry BabyDino, you're too late, and no, it's not a good decision
Oh! 1001bricks probably thinks he's a cheese. But he just stinks!
If I wanted to order something from someone and I couldn't ask a question,
I wouldn't order anything from them. Anyone who thinks otherwise must be
totally stupid!
Then I am.
Because on Amazon I don't have to ask to the seller:
"Is that PCI to NVMe adapter brand new? Can you send me a picture so I can
check"?
We're not ALL Collectors.
A New Sealed Set is New Sealed.
And a majority of buyers wish decent quality Used or New Sets, Sealed or not.
BrickLink has a low tolerance to Sellers misleading buyers, so we can assume
the majority of buyers is happy, and don't need any pictures.
And later on, when you get 1 or more feedbacks, the problem's automatically
resolved and you can anyway ask any question you wish. So all in all, it's
just a counter measure against brand new accounts.
It could be better implemented, but that would require time, meetings and development
- so I guess it'll be later. For now this is what we have; you can call us
stupids.

Some people just think rules shouldn't apply to them because they have "experience'.
