I have a number of these gears (part no. 743) that I received in a box of used
parts:

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?id=1930#T=P&C=7

They are all slightly convex, i.e., a 1x8 brick could not be placed across the
centerline and properly contact the studs all the way across the face of the
gear. It doesn't seem kosher, but all four are identical and I don't
see any other sign of damage.

Is this just the way these gears are shaped?

I happened to have one close at hand, but I’m not seeing the same issue - a 1x8
plate touches all of the studs pretty evenly when laid across. Are there any
stress marks, or rubbing marks on the underside that indicate that they might
have been held in a position for a few decades that warped them slightly?
Can you post a photo?

Thanks for the replies. I'm just going to assume they are warped and toss
them. They're not valuable enough to be worth spending more time investigating.

If they are CA then they might just be warped
