So, what do you do when a set has 2 DUPLO decorated bricks (different colors,
same decoration) and the existing BL catalog entries do not have any PCC for
either one. I can see both of them on the TLG side, but no color indication from
over there. How do I tell which is which ?

See if one of them is in another set. But yeah. In a lot of cases there is
nothing we can do with just the information we have.

Nope, both of them are 1-set only (because of the decoration).

I am not privy to the details, but I believe they are working on getting the
colors associated with items into the data stream.
Thanks, that set is an example (although rare) of why the colors are needed.
Of course they will be the TLG color codes, which could trigger quite some kerfuffle
about the differences between PLG and MS. It might also reveal the intended colors
for some of the blended parts (e.g. the spheres which varied widely). I suspect
that a few parts are bi-colored.

Nah, the blended parts are just listed as "Multicombination" in the database,
which has its own IDs (30-33, 80-81, 169-172, 177, 181, 237-267, 270-282) which
do not correspond to color combinations across different designs. Sadly there's
really not much information to gain there unless LEGO has that data lying around
somewhere else (which surely they do? You need that in order to mold them?).

That specific kind of example is rare, but the need isn’t rare. There are sets
where there is no description. A Scala set with a red shirt and blue pants that
have no PCC and two dangling PCCs. If I just knew which one was red.

I’ve submitted requests to add the remaining IDs. Brickset and other sites will
sometimes have the missing color information.
But you did not answer my original question. I was already working on that set,
and by pointing it out you did things I was working on.
NR
The answer to the question was Brickset and other sites. They updated their database
to include new parts, but not all of them have colors attributed to them. One
wallpaper brick has a color attributed to it. The other does not, therefore,
it is Light Yellow.
