How can you have acquired 13.000 feedback in six years and not know the very
basics of how the catalog is filled by community effort?
I'd say those missing sets are reserved for you to inventory and to add to
the system.

Instead of making smart ass rude remarks, try re-reading it. This timeframe
has changed. Show some respect.

That is a good question. I am surprised BL allows someone to verbally disrespect
another member.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It baffles me when high feedback members
post about expecting sets to be inventoried, yet never mention doing any inventories
themselves. HOW DO THEY NOT KNOW?!

There is no guide on specific timeframes. They are added by volunteers, this
can days days - weeks - months or sometimes even longer or maybe never. All
inventories are added by volunteers and Lego is releasing more sets every year
and the admin team is small so it means more work so it might seem like it’s
taking longer but if I’m not mistaken more items are being added to bricklink
then ever before.

The line between fun and addictive is thin
Indeed tho the taking pictures part isn’t fun
I hate adding parts but it needs to be done so badly.
The worst part of inventorying sets is the waiting for parts to be approved
But good things come to those who wait.

Just curious, I know some stores have payments of $400 - $500 a month in Bricklink
fees. Based on the amount of stores active and the average monthly cost, what
about subsidizing a percentage to make that a paying position. Just a thought
1 thing I was thinking of that could work is if lego added some
inventory submitters to the lego ambassador network thing and then they could
send them free sets to use for inventories as technically they are advertising
its inventory so people buy the set to part out
I asked LEGO once if they could send me a CMF case like they do the reviewers
because I always inventory them for the Bricklink catalog. They asked me how
many followers I have. I have no idea!! A lot, I think.

I think Bricksie said around 100,000 is needed.
But what ever in my opinion, you are the most valuable member on BrickLink, and
seeing as you the main man holding up the site, TLG should let you do what you
need, after all technically you’ve been advertising the contents of sets to over
a “million” users for years!

LEGO really needs to provide a data file that could update the database with
each release. They already have all of it, including pictures.

they already send most of that data. the volunteer just needs to confirm it,
add extras, and add new items
[…]
LEGO really needs to provide a data file that could update the database with
each release. They already have all of it, including pictures.
First, the data from LEGO is already used as a ‘seed’ for BrickLink inventories.
It has been so for years.
Then, LEGO doesn’t have the data the catalogue needs or has data that needs to
be checked.
In no particular order:
1. Extras.
2. Minifigures. (And are they new to the set?)
3. Stickered parts.
4. Parts variants.
LEGO really needs to provide a data file that could update the database with
each release. They already have all of it, including pictures.
Correction: they have all of their data and most of their images. It is very
incomplete by BrickLink standards.
We do start with their data and have for years. We start with their images but
frequently need to improve them. They don't think variants exist. They don't
count extras. They don't define, photograph, or describe patterns. They don't
check the Catalog for duplicate entries. Their color names are whack. They don't
define minifigs or animal builds.
Downloading the inventory with the LEGO data is about 10% of the work believe
me. Besides, nothing is stopping sellers from parting out via the data and third
party software. Have fun counting everything out!

For some reason, they don't know what their own colors look like.

I've parted out by getting the inventory (sans minifigures) from Rebrickable,
uploading to a want list, setting the prices, exporting that and tweaking the
XML, and then uploading that to BL.
It wasn't fun but if you're waiting on an inventory and you want to part
out a set right now, it works. Sort of.

The first time can be a little difficult but it can be fun
It's a catch 22 for me. I want to help - I really do - but all the sets
I buy are very large and also always reserved. I need to find a few 100-200
part sets that people aren't doing and try those because I have a lot of
questions after reading the guidelines. I'll learn better through practice.

These sets are all of the weird varieties that often lag, but I have bought the
braille ones and will be doing them soon. I'm doubtful that you were trying

Yes. A new sealed set is always used for brand new sets inventories (unless one

Ok, just pop down to the ol’ Wally world, and-o look nothing, Ooo well I guess

The problem is no one wants to go and spend 25CAD on a useless duplo set that

Is it ok to inventory a set from a video if it’s was a sealed set unboxing?

no idea. id guess its discouraged so even if it might work for a set like this
it could set a precedent so my guess would be a no

I care. DUPLO may be for young ones, but they make a lot of neat stuff in those
sets. And what would Nubs have to destroy if not for that theme?

After taking a look at the new sets for 2024 in the catalog, many have an inventory
already. Are you looking for a specific theme or set that is not done yet? There
are some themes that don't sell well so I am sure I am not the only seller
who doesn't rush out to buy them. That would cause a delay in inventories
being done since it is a voluntary position. Lego prices have also gone up quite
a bit the last few years with no signs of slowing down. See the article about
Lego having a 16% increase in sales so far this year, think I saw it on google
news. I don't rush out anymore to buy new stuff at full price. I used to
do inventories for many sets years ago but at the time I had an "in"
with a local store. I could buy sets early, prerelease. Bricklink also didn't
have the wait until official release date to add items to the catalog. I could
have items and inventories added before everyone else had the sets.
I don't buy much at regular retail price anymore and if I did I can't
compete with those of you that can buy 20 of something. It became no longer a
profitable venture to inventory sets. Being an honored store I saw an increase
in sales every month I had that badge, but that too doesn't appear to be
a thing with the way people shop now. There is just not an advantage for a job
that takes a lot of time and work anymore. Sometimes I had to leave a set parted
out on a table for a week or two for verification while admins discussed pieces
and whether or not to build brick built figures or not. It is very tedious work.
I think the people that inventory sets now do it because they care about the
product and the database. Which is awesome, but doesn't mean they have a
reason to do it immediately. I feel a 6 month lag in unpopular sets or themes
sounds about right.
