Hello Everyone,

I’m wondering if there’s a way to search for a shop by the town that they are
located in. I got an envelope with a few parts yesterday and I don’t think it’s
supposed to be here. I haven’t ordered in a while and my shop has been closed
about 6 weeks due to a family emergency (coming back soon I hope). I’ve emailed
two shops- one that I placed my last order with and another with a similar (but
not the same) name. I don’t see any recent PayPal transactions other than a payment
to BL. I’m just trying to get these parts to whoever they belong to.

Thanks for your help.

Is there a return address on the package ? I'd start by looking for the shop
by state https://www.bricklink.com/browseStores.asp?countryID=US&groupState=Y

Thanks for your reply.
I did try that but was unsuccessful. I was going to offer to send the parts to
the correct buyer and save the seller time but I guess I’ll be shipping them
back to California. I wish there was a way to search by town or shop owner’s
name.

Did you try to search in your email? If they had your address probably is from
an old order, maybe not a recent one but an error due to browser autofill in
the seller computer.

This makes the most sense anyway, at least from a privacy perspective. This hasn't
happened to me (yet?) but if I had a mixup when sending I would want the recipient
to send it back to me so I could send it out to the correct buyer.

I haven’t been able to find anything on this seller and I don’t know how they
found me. I don’t recall ordering from or sending to this town. I’m going to
mail it out this weekend when I can get to the post office. The privacy issue
hadn’t occurred to me. I was just trying to help the seller get the order to
their customer faster.

I'll admit I've done it three times. Paypal had a glitch for a while
and it would reprint the last label instead of my new one. If you didn't
watch it like a hawk, you'd send two orders to one person. I must have caught
it at least a dozen times but 3 got through before I figured out what was going
on.

The first time it was a bunch of expensive elves parts. The person wouldn't
return them to me, but said they'd send them on to the buyer. Of course they
never did. Ate that one

The second time, they were super gracious, and sent them to the buyer for me,
even after I told them it wasn't their problem and they could jsut return
them to sender (me). I paid her for the new label, gave her a generous coupon
for her help, and she used it immediately, so win win for everyone.

Third time, I had just moved and they just did a return to sender without letting
me know until I figure out something was wrong. So it went 2000 miles the wrong
way. I contacted the guy who bought my house who told me he'd sent it to
my buyer. I sent him a label and everything. He never did it. Ate it again.

Anyway its expensive and a pain in the rear. I don't wish it on anyone.

That’s horrible! I am just trying to do what I would want someone to do if I
was in the seller’s shoes. I don’t think these are very expensive parts but they
aren’t mine to keep and it would reflect poorly on my reputation if I even thought
of not returning them.

I hope that never happens to you again.

If they have already been delivered, presumably you need to pay to return them
to the seller's return address. That puts the onus on the seller to refund
you the postage costs, and as you don't know who the seller is then they
cannot agree to it before you do it. If the parts are low value, it might not
be cost effective to return them. They might independently be refunding the buyer
and not need cheap parts returned at their expense.

The seller has your address, so presumably they also have your email address
and can contact you if they need to. If their buyer contacts them and they look
into it, they will find their mistake. If they contact you in a reasonable time,
then return it at their expense. I'd keep it to one side, ready to return
in case they ask.

Not sure if that’s the case per say. Pretty sure (at least in Canada) you can
return packages to sender at no cost (at least for lettermail I’ve never tried
for parcel but when printing labels it often says that if returned the seller
will be charged the counter shipping cost)

So you can open a package, repackage it and return it at no cost? How do they
know it is a return? I can understand free returns if the package is refused
and then returned. But if it is accepted and opened, then the return could be
sending anything. If two people needed to send something to the other, a free
return for an opened parcel could be abused.

Pretty sure for the lettermail part you simply write return to sender on the
envelope and put in back in the local mail box. As for parcel I don’t know as
I’ve never had it happen before like that. Yup pretty sure it can be abused but
I’m pretty sure it could be caught easily if you do it often

For already opened mail? That gives free postage one way between people that
need to send something to each other. Here, if it has been opened, it has to
be sent with new postage.

I mean even if it’s sealed it could be fake. Simply reverse the addresses and
apply used stamps and it would be the same so it being opened shouldn’t really
be that weird. Just tape it up scratch out the address and write return to sender
and place it in the box and it’ll get sent back

Here, that is likely to be caught. The receiver would then have to pay the postage
due, plus an extra fee for processing.

I’m going to pay it forward and pick up the cost of shipping it back. It’s only
a few dollars and I’ll be helping another seller out. Luckily it’s the same
country just opposite coasts. 🙂

You can mark it "Return To Sender" and it will not cost you a thing.
This is part of what we pay for with our postage.
