The issue appears to be more about clarity. If someone has something for sale,
it should be in a store and available to buy. It shouldn't be "send me
a message and we'll arrange a deal" - even if the intention is that the
deal is done with a password through the store.
Otherwise, what is to stop others posting about deals that involve contacting
the seller to arrange the sale. Any closed store could do it, saying the plan
is to put it the sale through their store. No doubt some would avoid fees by
not putting it through the store. So better to keep it simple and have no "message
me for details" sales.

| Because I don't have a reasonable alternative to sell this item.
1) price it at $1000 with contact for actual price (risk being least favorited)
2) price it at $185, increase my risk of fraud
I'm going with option #3. Leave BrickLink. If I can't sell a single
rare item in a way that is convenient for me, then I don't need to be here
anymore.

| Sellers go on vacation and close their store. They often offer a message with
store password or to contact them to obtain it.
What I tried to do was essentially the same thing. The item is in my store inventory.
This is just another load of crap and bogus BL ways

| I agree. This was not cool.
It was pretty obvious to me in your original message that everything would be
done through BL, and you having been around since almost the beginning of the
site would know that. Not to mention, you have a _very_ commendable history here.
Don't let this one little thing drive you away. This site is much more than
just one crappy decision every now and then.

| Why does it matter? The sale is going through BL regardless.
BTW-I can sell it as a reserved lot with various store passwords.
