Hello,

Need an advise/inspiration from you veterans, but firstly id like to quickly
describe how I operate my BL store:

-Ive reached almost 20,000 parts on my Bricklink store.
-I sell used parts.
-All my parts are stored in zip lock bags that are numbered U0001 to U0870. (I
live in a small apartment. No space for drawers.)
-I don't use Brickstore or any other "extensions". Purely Bricklink.

Since starting in March, my order of actions to list were:

1. Wash.
2. Sort into colours.
3. Sort one colour (for example white) into types and put 3-5 different lots
into 1 zip lock bag (many bags).
4. Start listing on Bricklink.
Take zip lock bag, assign "location" number on it (for example U0751),
list parts from the bag to bricklink. Repeat listing process until all parts
of one colour are listed to BL.
5. Sort different colour into types and process repeats.

I now have listed most of my parts to Bricklink. It is time to add parts to
existing listings and "locations".

Order of actions:
1. Wash
2. Sort into colours.
3. Sort one colour into types and put 3-5 different lots into 1 zip lock bag
(many bags).
4. Start listing on Bricklink.
Take zip lock bag, assign "location" number on it, list parts from
the bag to bricklink. If part is aleardy in my store inventory, then I increase
amount of items in BL, put those parts with the rest of its lot. If part is not
in my store I add it as usual. Repeat listing process until all parts of one
colour are listed to BL.
5. Sort different colour into types and process repeats.

And that's where I need your advise. Is there any smarter way to speed up
this process? Maybe I should sort everything into types and forget about colours?

How do you add more parts to existing listings?
Can you give me any advise to make my sorting/listing process bit quicker/more
efficient?

Thank You in advance.

(Hopefully i make sense with my long post. I myself not quite sure how to explain
everything properly or what do i even want to ask you guys Just need some
enlightenment)

The one thing that I've learn (and wish I did differently myself) is the
way that I store my parts. As with most I originally sorted by color and when
I loaded my bins though that it would be ok to have similar parts of the same
color as they would be easy to tell apart. What I've found from washing
and sorting other used lots over time is that it is much better to sort by part
type and store with mixed colors of the same part. It's a lot easier to
load into BL because once you add a part, you can click the link to add same
part in a new color an only have to update the color an price and secondly, you
can reduce your storage by sharing the same drawer or bag for multiple parts
of different colors because when you go to pull the order, it's much easier
to see a color you want in a mixed lot then a part mixed with similar colors.

When I'm adding new parts that are already in my inventory, I always add
everything to a Stockroom and then use the BL inventory search to see if I have
and duplicate parts entries. This makes it easy to find what is already stored
and then I can just pull that bin, update the quantity and it's ready to
sell.

Good point. Ill think about doing that aswell.

Thank you for your answer

I try to not put similar looking parts in the same bag so its easy to differentiate
and leaves less room for error. Example: a bag contains 2x3 bricks, 1x1 tiles,
1x2 brackets, 1x12 technic beams etc. (ofc depends on the quantities.)

Please save yourself from a world of frustration: Sort your parts for sale by
type, not by colour. I wish I had started that way. It would have saved me a
lot of time.

I only use Bricklink to add inventory. Either I part out sets, or I look up parts
in the catalogue and add them from there. https://www.bricklink.com/inventoryAdd.asp
This will be easy to do, because you sorted your parts by type, not by colour.

When you parts to your inventory that you already have in stock, the system will
give you a prompt asking whether you want to list them as a separate lot, or
combine with the existing lot (Parts that are the same). Unless you want to identify
by a remark, or to give a description of condition, choose to combine to existing
inventory.

Buyers don't like searching in a seller's store and seeing multiple listings
for the same part. Avoid this. You can also search in your store inventory for
"Unique items" to see if you have identical items in separate lots.

Good luck!

Yes. Currently what I do is: List part as normal, so that means: Select colour,
set price, set the amount that i have, put my "location number" in remarks
field, the press add part and Bricklink tells me that I already have that part
listed. So this minute of work goes to waste . Then I go and combine with
existing lot.

Completely agree with this. Trying to avoid doing this.

Thank you for pointing this out. Didnt know about it. Will come in handy in the
future.

Appreciate your advise

Hi there.

This is the way.

Im currently in the process of going to drawers.
I do have 6 boxes with zip lock bags.

2 of them are big parts clusterd labeld wich in in what box. So they dont consume
effort to locate.

The other 4 are filled with zip lock bags sorted by part or type/theme.
Soms parts can go to drawers as they already have recenter uploads of the parts
into the drawers. But mostly i do not resort unless it comes in an order or something.

Also i have a keen memory about where things are placed.. kinda helps too

Finding bricks is not a problem

Here is how I currently store them. One large bag that has 5 smaller bags inside
it.
Those 5 smaller bags each have 10 even smaller bags with 3-5 lots in them.
Easy to find, but a bit of a hassle. Cant complain tho. Drawers are a dreaaaaam,
maybe after a year or two once I move to a different place I can get them
(and hopefully sell enough parts so that it makes sense to invest into drawers
)

You don't need to invest a huge amount of money on storage. I have bags inside
drawers, and got the drawers on sale, or used, and some I found for free lying
on the side of the road. Look around.

Remember, that the more time you spend carefully sorting and organizing your
inventory, the less time you will spend trying to find parts to fill orders.

No, no, no! Sort by part category not color. My eyes would fall out of my head
if I sorted by color first.

Hahaha, indeed. Looks like sorting by part is the way to go - not by colour,
then part.
