We’re excited to announce the launch of the MOC Pop-Up Store featuring 41 fan
designs that were submitted to the BrickLink Designer Program in Series 1, with
more designs to be made available in October from Series 2.
Check it out to build some of your favorite BDP submissions!
From today until the middle of November, you can order elements and instructions
to build select BDP submissions through the BrickLink Marketplace and LEGO® Pick
a Brick. The pilot is available in select countries, see the FAQs for a complete
list.
How to Purchase
1. Choose your stores—We'll do the heavy lifting and find a combination
of stores that carry all the elements you need to build these designs. Your options
will include a combination of BrickLink stores and LEGO. Pick a Brick to find
you the best deals possible!
2. Check out—We'll add the elements from the stores you've picked
and the digital building instructions to your cart so you can check out.
3. Get excited! Do a little happy dance when your elements arrive and
start building!

as someone who loves building lego, i think this is very cool thing to do, but
will it be only limited to BrickLink Designer Program series? or will there be
others that will be able to add their MOC as well? i only ask this because i
have seen some remarkable MOCs only to wish they had this option as well.
Not available in Canada. Nothing to be excited about. I'm just furious now.
Why even show us the pop up store if you're not going to let us order?
Too bad that no Minifigs are included (like in the original sets) and I find
them rather expensive. Specialy if you add the worldwide shippingcosts.
Why isn't there a buy option available to buy from Lego-pick-a-brick and
stores located in Europe (or an option with the combination from PAB and your
own resident country), this could keep the costs a little bit more under control.
I am going to pas this, allthough there are really a couple of interesting MOCS,
they are just too expensive.
Because this isn't Rebrickable; there were roughly ~500 submissions, a lot
of them high quality, and only 41 designs were chosen - some being multiple designs
from the same person
Just doesn't seem right to me
It is a pilot program. If it is successful I would expect to see more people
featured. Maybe these are the ones who responded first to the program.

Yes, I sincerely think it was done fairly: they took the designs that were most
liked (and that may not match what you liked) and asked their designers.
They only took the ones that had “a mininum” of votes: no need to work on a design
if only the designer’s familly voted for it. (It’s harsh but it’s true.)
And the designers had to modify their designs and instructions. So they may
have refused or or didn’t have the time.
And it’s not 500 submissions: there were 600-something submissions but a lot
were refused (mine! the outrage!), and in the end we voted for 368 (they are
still visible).
That already leaves 327 but there were also quite a few that were re-submitted
to BDP2 or that are waiting to be re-submitted to BDP3.
And I’d take the bet that it’s the more liked ones (with more comments) that
are re-submitted.

I enjoy a number of the designs that are available, but it would be really nice
if you gave the ability to part out to a wanted list. I have a number of parts
in my store that I could source some of the inventory a set that I'm looking
for, but in order to get it to a wanted list, I had to go through the process
of creating the carts for the set, then "moving" the carts to wanted
list and then merging the lists together to create a single list for the entire
set. This has it's problems because there were numerous parts in the same
color in multiple stores that I then had to update the count since you can have
multiple entries. All this to then search my store inventory and find 100 lots
of parts that I already have.
Please add the ability to send to a wanted list so that you can just purchase
the instructions now while available and then parts at your own convience.

Yeah. I thought there would be a simpler solution to buy only the instructions
(+ parts list) or the possibility to check the parts list before the stores are
chosen.

Maybe because this way it brings (more) business to LEGO PAB?

Its Bittersweet to finally see this happening.
LEGO is finally "GETTING IT" After years of waiting the fact I can use
PaB and see that in almost 70% of the cases I can get the #'s and Parts I
want for much cheaper Prices through them than Bricklink... Its like a Never

If they wanted to do that, they could simply allow to add parts not in the design
to PAB.

Yeah, selected fewest stores for sure. Unfortunately that left two list with
over 100 lots each so it was still painful to merge and only hope that my math
and eyes were correct in merging the parts together so that I don't lose
count on something. I guess only time will tell

BrickStore lets you import your carts directly and consolidate the items with
a couple of clicks.

Yeah. I thought there would be a simpler solution to buy only the instructions

The parts list is viewable in the bottom of each design page, you just can't
download it...
PD: If by check you mean to edit the list before looking stores, that would be
nice too.

Yes, “check” as in “look and edit by comparing with your Inventory or with your
My Collection.”
And not by having two windows open on your screen and going through them one
line at a time
Because the system shows 4 options with a straight comparaison of the price while
as of right now showing "TBD" shipping prices, those "TBD" are
completely misleading prices IMHO.
So, in the "Buy everything for" page or elsewhere there should be a clear
option (UN-selected by default) "Include shops with TBD shipping prices".

There definitely is some other logic on the back end as well, at least for the
"Lowest Price" option. I just created a wanted list to see what parts
I had in a store for one of the MOCs and decided to check with the Wanted List
"Buy" Option and it came back with different stores for about $30 cheaper,
shipping included. Feels like they are using the "Easy Buy" option logic.

Or they are limiting to stores with Onsite payment?
I mean, the MPS is limited to countries where BL has to collect taxes. Unless
you are in EU and choose Domestic, there will be taxes to collect.

I did a test with "The Secret of the Japanese Castle" and choose to select
the carts for "Bricklink + PAB". One of the carts was for 5 items, 4
lots to be purchased in USA. Parts €6, shipping €24, tax €6, total €36. These
same parts can be purchased localy (Netherlands) for under €6 including shipping.
New condition, IC store, and there where many more local stores to choose from
for these parts. Now I'm curious how much more I can save by selecting my
own stores using the wanted list

Did a another test for this set;
BL stores only, lowest price: €578 euro, but 2 US stores with shipping (TBD)
and no tax included for three stores outside EU. Estimated total cost €640
Made the four carts, made four wanted list and used 'but all' and selected
the four wanted lists. Selected NL stores only. Total price incl. shipping €456
+ €20 for the instructions is €476. This took me about 5 minutes to do and saved
€164 (25%)
How are the stores in the MOC shop selected? All BL stores available or a selected
short list?
The purpose of this pilot is to understand if being able to buy building instructions
and elements that go with them is something that interrests members on BrickLink,
there are many things that can be improved for the future, some that we have
chosen not to invest in for the pilot and some that you are teaching us would
have value to you. Thank you for all the feedback, please keep it coming, good
and bad.
One thing I would like to touch upon is the process of selecting the designs.
A number of considerations have gone in to the decision, first and foremost we
were guided by the voting through BDP, then we looked at the size of the designs
wanting a good variation of variety and sizes, then we decided to narrow the
number of MOCs for the pilot because of the initial work required with and by
the designers, we also looked at the maturity or quality of the building instructions
and finally we had to consider element availability in the marketplace.
We hope to learn so much more about the desire for a MOC Pop-up Store on BrickLink,
so again, please share feedback and please keep in mind that this is a pilot

They could use the Referral ID in the future maybe, for knowing what originated
orders, WL, Cart, MOC Store, etc.

This only work if the buyer actually commits through the MOC program. If you
do what I did and create a wanted list then resource the materials, you won't
get that connection. I can understand how it would be good information to have,
but not sure how it would always work out unless directly through the program
itself.

I am excited. Good luck Tanja, Uday, Eric, Russell, and everyone else involved.
Your success means we get to engage more AFOLS, which means more variety and
niches in our marketplace. It also shows what can be done when enough focus is
given to a project.
Bummer. I was hoping it would allow me to purchase the instructions and source
the needed parts myself. I already have a decent-sized personal collection to
pull from.
Also, the system automatically seems to choose stores with the highest quantity
of parts to fulfill the MOC. This tends to be the highest priced stores on the
site.
Despite wanting a couple of the larger MOCs, I will have to pass.

Go 90% through the process and create the carts, but don't fully purchase.
From there, you can move the items to a wanted list(s) and the search back through
your store and pull out the parts you already have so that you don't have
to source everything. This is what I've done. I've also already suggested
the ability to part out to a wanted list too.
If you have many open, check the "Manual" menu on the left, the carts
created can be filtered as they have the name of the MOC there.

Please share how you did this. I have been entering the parts manually into BrickStore
and it is painful, slow, and error prone.
Go to Extras - Bricklink, there put your Login.
Then File - Import - BL Shopping Cart (or WL)
Then File - Import - BL Store Inventory
Combine all the cart files created into one, then in that file click on Edit
- Copy values from and select your store file.
Now on the cart file left click the top columns bar an enable Lot ID, sort the
file by that column and select all the parts that have Lot ID (Click on first
one and Ctrl+Shift on last one) then copy them to a new file. The remaning without
lotID can be copied to a new file to create a WL.
Select all parts in the new file and press Edit - Quantity - Multiply and put
-1.
Then select all again and click File - Export - Mass update and paste them in
the BL page to remove them from your inventory, you can use the file created
as a picking list.
Maybe I left something out but try it as it is easier to do than it seems!

Wow, that is so much easier than what I was doing. Thank you very much Sergio.
I definitely enjoyed a chance to go through some of these designs again! I found
two that I really like. (And by the same designer it turns out.)
Alas, when I went to check out, I was presented with some shops with VERY dubious
feedback, terms, and customer service records, including one that declared 'I
WILL CANCEL ORDERS MADE BY OTHER STORES'. I am going to have to get a bit
creative with the orders to avoid 2 of the 4 shops chosen for me.
Still, I am glad of the chance to support a designer and hope that more robust
shopping options are added to this process in the future.

Ah, well... I am really not much of a watch-a-video-to-learn-a-thing kind of
person. If someone wants me to know stuff, I need a link and regular old text
to read. I simply don't have the patience to listen to someone talk for 10
minutes when I only need one little bit of info.
I searched and didn't see anything in the FAQ. Can you summarize for me,
please?

Well, he selects one of the four solutions, then there’s a menu (three vertical
points) next to the green “Check out” button and there’s a “Remove this store”
option and a “Find alternate stores” one.
What I don’t know if only this store is replaced or if the whole solution is
recalculated with only this store removed, etc.
Like EasyBuy, they want something simple, and it’s too simple and therefore it
becomes complicated.

Ah, well... I am really not much of a watch-a-video-to-learn-a-thing kind of
person. If someone wants me to know stuff, I need a link and regular old text
to read. I simply don't have the patience to listen to someone talk for 10
minutes when I only need one little bit of info.
I’m the same, but when there’s nothing else….

Ugh, I totally missed that. Thanks for pointing this out to me!

I just place an order with that store. I left a note letting them know that I
was placing the order for a specific project and not to restock my store's
inventory. While the response message was terse, they did process my order with
no issues.
Alas, when I went to check out, I was presented with some shops with VERY dubious
feedback, terms, and customer service records, including one that declared 'I
WILL CANCEL ORDERS MADE BY OTHER STORES'.

You are braver than me. Their terms scared me off completely. Great selection
though!

I spent a little extra time and was able to completely source the MOC I chose
through the Pop-Up shop, my own store, and a couple of nice shops via my wanted
list. So, I guess the options are there for savvy buyers.
I hope any newer buyers that wander in take the time to read terms, feedback,
and check for hidden fees. Also, I don't envy these shops pulling such high
lot orders. I wonder how many 100-lot orders some of these shops are getting
right now?? Yikes.
Will the parts sold and received as part of the MOC Pop-Up Store be new or
used?
Parts sold by BrickLink Marketplace sellers will be in new or like-new
condition, unfortunately for the pilot it will not be possible to include used
parts. Parts sold by Pick a Brick will be new.
BL has two conditions, new and used. If it is not possible to include used parts
in the pilot, then surely all the parts must be new. So what is this extra condition
of "like-new" that has been added here. I thought BL didn't allow
sellers to use such descriptions anyway, as parts are either new or used and
used parts cannot be described as like new.

Yeah, using the term 'like-new' here is not good at all. Perhaps it was
someone's way of trying to indicate the 'NEW does not mean mint'
disclaimers we are all so fond of?

In that case, PaB parts aren’t more New and also qualify as “like-new” considering
the way they are handled and shipped
That is partly the problem. They have made it sound like LEGO's parts are
supplied new whereas Bricklink sellers are somehow lesser as they are like new.

The "or like-new" verbiage is errant and will be removed. Thank you
for pointing that out!

If you order and it includes PAB do you get VIP points?
If you order and it includes PAB do you get VIP points?
I guess those are "normal" PAB orders (apart the pre-made list to fill
the cart) and "normal" BrickLink orders, so you'll get for both VIP
or any discount (like in our shop)
