I recently took apart my Fire Brigade modular set that I had had on display for
years. It appears that the Fire Brigade set was made while TLC had a problem
making dark red parts that ended up being brittle—at least the 1X1 tiles in the
set. 2 of them broke right in half diagonally when I took the set apart.

Does anyone know what type of glue would be best for repairing such parts? I
have some super glue that contains cyanoacrylate. Are there certain ingredients
that I should look for or avoid?

Thanks,
David

It'd be cheaper just to replace the broken parts than buying any glue. Glue
will reduce the value of the set too.

I just finished cleaning the glue off of one of the sets I got recently (https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1427665#:~:

That's a scenario where the parts were glued to each other. I'm talking
about repairing parts that broke in two.

I know. I just thought I'd mention it since it had to do with glue and LEGO.

I have no intention of ever selling the set. I just want to repair the original
parts that came with it.

Here’s what I think will happen:

1. You get some glue.
2. Try to glue one part, make a mess with it.
3. Try another part,
  — good outcome: make a bit less of a mess, but still a mess,
  — bad outcome: it’s a worse mess.
4. And another and another…
5. At most, you’ll have a few usable glued-back-together parts, and you’ll have
to replace the others.
6. Even if you have “enough” glued-back-together parts to make it worthwhile
(as iprice said, the cost of the glue is already more than the price of replacement
parts, so that’ll be difficult), they will fail again when you try to use them.

TL;DR: “They are dead, Jim.”  Just replace the broken parts.

I used Medium CA Glue (Premium Cyanoacrylate Super Glue) once to repair a broken
blue plate. And I had better luck with this glue for various other repairs than
the common superglues...

But as mentioned earlier, maybe try to acquire two new parts first, that would
be easier.

pgremeau, you said that you had better luck with glue that contained cyanoacrylate,
which was what I also had, so I tried some on the tiles. I'm happy to report
that the cyanoacrylate-containing glue seems to have done the job well. The
tiles go onto a stud with the same clutch power as a normal tile.

Also pgremeau, thank you for being the only person who actually gave me an answer
to the question I asked.

1 x 1 tiles in dark red are neither rare nor expensive. Don't waste your
time trying to repair them and just buy new ones.

Came to the thread to see "KRA GL E" suggested; did not disappoint
(well done, rbritton31!)...

On another note; just message me an address to send them, and I'll send you
a pair of 1x1 Red Tiles to replace your broken ones...

Life is Good.
