We have a serious problem with some information papers. Sometimes they are identified
as book and sometimes as instructions.
I think it is better to consider them as book if it includes information about
how one can use a motor,...
and a paper if it includes information on how to safely use a battery box,...
in various sets.
Both of these came in language variations. For example the book of 103-1 came
in 14 language variations!
I think we need to mark the instructions for delete and add them as book or paper
information to the inventory of their appropriate sets.
Otherwise it takes years and maybe forever to resolve this situation, as mentioned
here.

That doesn't surprise me.

Would you like to explain your thought process behind that a little more? It
is hard to understand why one would be in one place and another in another place.
It would be good to understand more about these items so that we can get a better
understanding of where all of them should be ideally located. Once we have a
plan, we could execute it.
Both of these came in language variations. For example the book of 103-1 came

We cannot mark instructions for deletion. To remove an instructions entry, there
can be no listings in stores, in old orders, in current orders, etc., so this
is something that would need to be handled at the BrickLink office level if we
would decide to do anything.

that were produced in 1985 and 1986.
Since 1987, they changed the paper information and this was is considered as
"book"!
[b=binfbateu3]
and its other language variations.
If I add the early versions "paper"s (in various languages), they cannot
be added as alternate to the book binfbateu3. So I guess this should be changed
from book to paper.
And, this paper information is considered as instructions for service pack 5005-1
We have instructions 107. Its photo is uploaded by a Canadian user so the photo
is the Canadian version and non-Canadian sellers see that and don't upload
their European version as the instructions 107. Instead they list it under the
book:
Shall I create a new set for this version of the set?
I assume if we are going to remove instructions 107, then we should do for 901-1
(and the Canadian version of 107) for consistency.
At the end of the day, this can be considered as book because there is nothing
to build and this is just a supplemental set to be added to other "motorizable"
sets.
but I owned this set and mine was different.
I believe all 9v motors (excluding Dacta sets?) came with the same book and they
should be added as book. For example, I got a used copy of
The box art and instructions in 1981 shows the second versions of this set, i.e.
the built does come with black 4x6 plate,....
Also this booklet came with three (or more?!) language variations (each booklet
came with multiples languages like D/F/NL,...)
Years 1982-1991: the booklet entirely changed, became smaller, and was only included
in this set. Since 1982, each supplemental set 7858, 7859,... came with its own
different instructions/booklet.

A solution: one easy solution would be to remove instructions for all supplemental
sets
so that we can add all variations of booklets to the inventory. Then the first
and second versions of 8964's book can be added to other sets' inventory
too.
Note that in
1980 and in 1981, the majority of the supplement sets (7858, 7859,...7863) came
with the exact same booklet as 7864.
I think 7856 an 7857 did never come with any instructions/booklet.
