I am not surprised, wasn’t it around 2012 these heads changed from blocked open
stud (triangle) to hollow stud?

Exactly! I Ended up opening a sealed box and to my surprise sw0418 had a blocked
open stud.

We can't add a variant, nor a relationship, before this Head with Blocked
Open stud is added to the catalog.
Since you have this head, you can
1. add it to the catalog

2. change the minifigure inventory: hollow to blocked ... head
3. change the set inventory: add the hollow head as alternate item

4. submit relationship

that it can come with a blocked open stud head?

That is what is done with other contemporary figures, such as https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?M=mof012&name=Zombie%20Driver&category=%5BMonster%20Fighters%5D#T=I
It doesn't help with the differential pricing for the individual part types,
but at least it covers sellers when they receive the "wrong" head even
though the figure came with either type. Although I have never had a buyer complain
about the wrong head type where it could come with either.
