I have been buying on BL since 2014 and selling since 2021.
My idea of selling was to help fund my buying. Which might have been getting
out of comtrol

I have placed an order today with a seller who I have used 5 times before and
they have refused my order simply because I also have a store. They are convinced
I will resell their pieces on BL at a higher price.
I do know sellers who buy low and sell high. This seems to labour intensive to
me.

But is this a thing, sellers vetting customers?
If a seller refuses an order simpley because the buyer happens to have a store
as well, that is going to rule out a good proportion of this community.

Thoughts anyone.....

If you're paying the price they're asking, I don't see what the big
deal is.

Maybe they made a mistake pricing the item(s) and are trying to sell it at a
higher price?
Mistakes happen, admitting to have made one is far rarer though...

That seller is being ridiculous. I would put them on your Least Favorite list.

Yeah this seems really odd for them to cancel the order. I have sold items to
a few Lego 3rd party stores and never even considered canceling the order. I
am sure they will turn around and sell them for more than I had them listed,
but that is not a problem.

That suits the seller just fine. They don't want this buyer anyway.

I'd least favorite the store and, if the stuff about not selling to other
sellers wasn't in their terms, I'd also be inclined to leave negative
feedback.

No, UK Seller starting with a S.
I think they could get a lot of negative feedback from this.

Did they specifically state this as their reason for canceling the order?

Also, is this mentioned anywhere in their terms? If not, I would report them
to BL admins. It should be required that they notify in advance that they do
not sell to other BL sellers.

Report them for what? What part of the TOS did they violate? BL cannot force
anyone to sell to anyone else.

If I was the buyer, I would ask this seller why they are treating a repeat customer
this way and then move on to another store.

Orders are supposed to be a binding contract. At a minimum the store should
be required to post terms that outline which orders will be refused. BL admins
could potentially enforce this.

(I'm not suggesting that the store should be banned from selling)

Also, section 18 in the TOS. BL can also refuse service just like CNH1974 alleges
happened to them by an unknown seller. Not that I expect this to occur before
a warning.

18. Breach; Termination of Account:

I believe that mostly allows to terminate spammer accounts without having to

Does not make any sense at all??? If you are buying the Lego at the price they
have them listed then once purchase you can do whatever you want with them! spread
them out and lay around in them, build with them, resell them even eat them,
they are your bricks once you purchase them!

I don't care what a buyer does with the bricks I sell them (probably do not
want to know if fact.

Agree

There are some rather strange business practices here on BL.

OK; update.

I have managed to convince them that I am not "An evil reseller" and
they have accepted the order.

It is in their terms, added recently they say. I did not read the terms this
time because it is a seller I have bought from many times before. Their wording
is this:
"If you are a seller, I reserve the right to decline service, especially
if you are ordering a huge amount of bricks. I am not a wholesaler for you to
top up your stock, I am here to supply bricks for people to build models. Sellers
can buy from me, but not in vast amounts."

Obviously they are not breaking any rules but I find it odd that some sellers
seem to resent selling bricks. Also what defines a 'huge' order. I had
one this week in my store that was twice the value of the one I just placed.
But I would not call it huge.

If anyone wants to buy my entire stock; CMOTs Oblong Objects, please do!

In one sense, I tend to agree with them. The objective of BL (in 2023) is to
supply members who are building models. The objective is not, per se, to be a
part in a multi-level profit making scheme. That may not be specifically spelled
out as such, but our intention is to sell to those trying to build something.
Certain parts have ridiculously high demand vis-a-vis the available supply. As
I part out sets, I am paying attention to those parts which, in my recent experience,
have moved at a speed that suggests they were under priced (ignoring what the
price guide might otherwise suggest) and am pricing them more to what I believe
the market will bear. This is an attempt to allow the market to find it’s own
equilibrium, instead of trying to micro-manage who I will or will not sell to.
It is entirely possible I will over-shoot on some prices, and eventually I will
bring them down. As I am parting out sets many of which exceed 20 years of age,
I do run across items which are thinly traded (to put it mildly).

I base my prices on the average and apparent demand. The latter being a guestimite.
If demand appears to be low often I will be the lowest on UK BL as I want it
to sell.
But if something sells with in a day or less it may mean I have underpriced it.

Is your last name Dibbler? I have an internal server called "cmot"...

Niek.

That sounds a bit eldritch to me.

I did think of using Eldritch in the store but thought it was a bit too meta.

Nice. Also had servers "carrot" and "vetinari", and a laptop
"vimes". Internal network was "ankh-morpork".

I also had laptops called "dirk" and "gently", and servers "trillian"
and "zaphod", obviously from another realm.

I didn't want to be on the band wagon where servers were called "dantooine",
"tatooine", "hoth" etc.

Niek.

I have really enjoyed thinking about the perception behind this exchange.

What the seller is saying is that they know other buyers will pay more if they
instead get to deal with anyone else. What a drastic admission of poor customer
service.
