It would be really awesome if there was some form of tax integration for Canadian
stores even if it is just a column for taxes and not just additional charges.
It could even be store managed and not automated by Bricklink like in the US.
Once we started collecting taxes a minimum order has to go away as the "additional
charges" spot used for a tiny order fee is occupied for charging taxes.

Thank you for reading

technically bricklink is supposed to be collecting sales tax in Canada themselves
so hopefully that is implemented soon (they are over a year late at this point)
as that will solve multiple problem for bricklink in Canada

Russell reached out to me about a month ago saying they're no longer doing
that as they're not required to (but could voluntarily do it should they
wish in the future of course). I asked if they could implement the sales tax
field (as The Piece River requested) until (if) they implement marketplace taxes.
No news yet if they'll give us access to the field and tax tables.

Rip but thanks for the heads up, if not required I wonder why every other marketplace
like eBay and Amazon implemented it but hopefully we can at least one day get
a tax field and table so we can one day have instant checkout
Much thanks for asking

My recollection (could be wrong) is that BL looked into whether they qualify
as a "marketplace" under Canadian law and it seems they do not.

Super surprised by this!!! I was under the impression they were implementing
a tax collection system for every country even when not required. I don't
care either way about the collection of Canadian taxes by BL because i track
those in another system (and pay them at tax time). Now maybe they can work on
seller tools!?! I’m holding my breath! Additional Charges 1 works fine for me
and i barely ever have any questions about it. Would be nice to customize that
name though to whatever you want… Ahem… but that would be a seller tool, would
it not?

I see you're charging everyone 13% HST, but making a note in the terms "If
you live in a province with less sales tax you may want to change the shipping
method to "Request Invoice" and we will apply the correct sales tax for
your Province.".

The only province 13% HST applies to is Ontario, but your store is in AB. I'm
sure you're aware it isn't legal to collect sales tax beyond what is
required, so I hope/assume you've refunded all overages collected, even if
they didn't select Request an Invoice. This is why the tax tables are important
and why instant checkout isn't great for Canadian sellers/buyers at the moment.

I hope you are not assuming that I don't do that.

I'm actually happy that I can manage the tax myself instead of BL forcing
me to do it their way. Less communist this way.

ah, thank-you for that tidbit! It is actually an easier course for me as I already
have an established tax collection system for my store. Saves having to change
how I do my books..
