What's up with the Chewbacca face printing? Is their two variants? Does anyone
actually have a Medium Nougat printed Chewbacca? Or were these mis-identified?
All of my 15307 definitely have Dark Tan Printing and the BL catalog only lists
this piece as having 'Medium Nougat' fur printing. SW1184 also looks
Dark Tan.

Part No: 15307pb01 Name: Minifigure, Head, Modified SW Wookiee, Chewbacca with Medium Nougat Face Fur and Teeth Pattern
*
15307pb01 Minifigure, Head, Modified SW Wookiee, Chewbacca with Medium Nougat Face Fur and Teeth Pattern
Parts: Minifigure, Head, Modified {Dark Brown}

Even rebrickable labels the part as "Minifig Head Special, Wookiee with Dark
Tan Face Fur and Teeth Print (Chewbacca)" and it also lists both legs on
sw0532 and sw1253 as having Dark Tan Fur, but slightly different print patterns.

Minifig No: sw0532 Name: Chewbacca - Medium Nougat Fur
*
sw0532 (Inv) Chewbacca - Medium Nougat Fur
Minifigures: Star Wars

Minifig No: sw1253 Name: Chewbacca - Medium Nougat Face Fur, Dark Tan Leg Fur
*
sw1253 (Inv) Chewbacca - Medium Nougat Face Fur, Dark Tan Leg Fur
Minifigures: Star Wars

Minifig No: sw1184 Name: Chewbacca - Snow
*
sw1184 (Inv) Chewbacca - Snow
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 4/5/6

So I think the descriptions of these should change, because at the moment, they
are very confusing, and I'm pretty sure all the fur on these is Dark Tan.

First off, I must say that your skill with lighting for LEGO part photography
is great. The example photo you included with the 1X2 plates visually shows
exactly what you mean.

The Bricklink photos, however, don't seem to all match as far as printing
color. The sw0532 and sw1184 minifigs both look like they have dark tan printing,
like your MF does. The photos for the 15307pb01 part and the sw1253 MF look
like they have medium nougat printing. Based on this, I think there must be
printing color variants.

So I think the descriptions of these should change, because at the moment, they

I expect the color descriptions have something to do with these:

which certainly appear different.

Anyway, here is Chewbacca who's been hanging out in my

There is a very slight difference in the head, but not the legs so... I dunno?

I'll get some better pics tomorrow when I have my camera and some better
light.

Also, I don't think the difference is due to light or photo editing. If I
color match the plastic, the print still looks different.

Shouldn't these be viewed as minor colour variations? Just like this part

Some of the shades in that are very pale, through to very dark. Trying to colour
match the print colours to plastic colours is an impossible task when there is
so much variation.

Oh, I agree that, even if there is a slight difference, these could not be split.
I think there just needs to be some clarification or notation for the color name
to avoid further confusion. I've got one of the oldest ones and one of the
newest ones so I will make a reference image for the catalog.

It seems to me that both those decorated legs came out near the same time. One
of them really looks Dark Tan-ish and so it makes sense to call the other something
different. Hence the Med Nougat, as it is certainly warmer in color hue.

That would be my guess anyway.

Just to clarify: I meant the 2 Chewy heads should not be split whatever color
they end up being called. Obviously, the 2 leg prints are different.

Thanks,

As Jennnifer's picture shows more clearly, it is not just the colour of the
print, it is the pattern of the print on the legs that's different as well.

They were indeed mis-identified at the beginning (i.e. the Chewbacca parts originally
had "Dark Tan Fur" in the item name). It came to my attention when this
minifigure was submitted, which clearly shows different colors for the face and
leg fur:

Minifig No: sw1253 Name: Chewbacca - Medium Nougat Face Fur, Dark Tan Leg Fur
*
sw1253 (Inv) Chewbacca - Medium Nougat Face Fur, Dark Tan Leg Fur
Minifigures: Star Wars

*
970c00pb0281 Hips and Legs with Medium Nougat Fur Pattern (SW Chewbacca)

*
15307pb01 Minifigure, Head, Modified SW Wookiee, Chewbacca with Medium Nougat Face Fur and Teeth Pattern
Parts: Minifigure, Head, Modified
it is unlikely that there are any intentional variants of these parts. However,
the print colors may vary depending on factory and production run, as can be
seen in Jen's nice images, so the Medium Nougat fur sometimes looks close
to Dark Tan, also due to the dark brown background. But the official render images
confirm that it really is meant to be Medium Nougat:
