Hi

I'm really confused about quite a few things when trying to find the parts
I have in my wanted list.

First question: is there any way to switch "lots" to "parts"?
When I search stores to get my parts, instead of telling me "434 parts",
it tells me "102 lots" and that's just annoying. I know how many
parts I have in the MOC. Not lots. I've never seen a MOC saying how many
lots there are.
At least a way to know, in a wanted list, how many parts there are.

Second question: I selected a store, and it was telling me I had 104 lots (I'm
supposed to have 102). I counted every item, and it adds up to 491. Instead of
434. What the hell is that?! Those things aren't in my wanted list. Is it
trying to sell me stuff I never asked for, hoping I wouldn't notice?!

Third question: if I buy stuff from a wanted list in a store, do I have any way
to know how many parts are missing AND what they are? I tried with a store, I
put the items in my cart, and when I went into my wanted list nothing had changed
and I could find anywhere what was missing. You'd think that if I bought
it I'd know, but I did buy something in the past and my wanted list hasn't
changed, so I just assume the wanted list isn't linked to the buyings you
do.

Thanks

Hi there.

I think there is an anctual difference between lots and parts.

Lots are parts from the same part is number but are seperated by colour.
Lets say 1 plate 1x2 red ,and 2 plate 1x2 blue. These are 2 lots ; with 3 parts.

Also some stores are some stores aint consolidated.

I am a consolidated store; meaning every time i upload one or more 1x2 plate
red;
These will show up in the store as one lot (so the customer sees only one pool
of 1x2 red plates). Granted the condition is the same(new or used).

Where some stores dont consolidate there inventory you will have separeted lots
for every time this store will upload.

This can explain why the lots part can turn out higher as "minimal"
-also sometimes sellers need to source between conditions to meet your needs
(used and new)

I do not knoe the exact workings of the wanted list, but i dont think it will
add random parts.. most likely the stores you looked at had a minimum lot count
or average set or something.. but im sure somebody can eleborate this better
then me.

Anyway good day, and good luck with bricklink!

Hi,

Yes, BrickLink is complicated.  OTOH, selling/buying hundreds of small items
from a catalogue of 100,000 different types in thousands of stores is complicated.
Buying and selling are also two faces of the same coin: same things but different.

First question: is there any way to switch "lots" to "parts"?
When I search stores to get my parts, instead of telling me "434 parts",
it tells me "102 lots" and that's just annoying. I know how many

At least a way to know, in a wanted list, how many parts there are.

This has been asked for many times… but nothing changed (yet?).

But it’s even worse than that: in some places, the word “items” is used and sometimes
it means “lots” and sometimes it really means “items” (= parts, minifigures,
sets, etc.).
For instance, when you look at a WL, items = lots, when you’re on the Buy page,
lots = lots, items = parts/minifigures/….

Also, for a buyer, a lot is a combination item + colour, you can’t have the same
combination twice in a WL (for instance, one for New and one for Used), you need
to use multiple WLs for that.

For a store, for a cart, or for an order, a lot is a line / an entry.  There
can be multiple times the same item + colour combination.  Generally other characteristics
are different (condition, price, bulk…), but that’s not mandatory.

In general it’s “bulk lots”: lots that you must buy in a quantity that’s a multiple
of a given number (or the whole lot).  Those lots are indicated by a “x (number)”
(“x3”, “x10”…).
(Note that the price listed is always per unit.)

If you used Auto-select, it means it thought it would be better (cheaper?) for
you to buy bulk items (so, more than what you really want).

Beware though: the completion percentage may be wrong.  It sums the selected
quantities (=491) and compares to the sum of wanted quantities (=434), but it
doesn’t compare individual lots.  That means that if you need 1 part X and 1
part Y, and Auto-select didn’t find part Y but found that buying part X in bulk
(say x10) would be better, the total will be 10 (so 1000% completion!) but you’ll
still be missing part Y!

To see what parts are missing after you or Auto-select have selected stores,
use the Wanted Items tab on the left of the Buy page.
See (2) on the first image here: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2445

In that tab, all the items in your Wanted Lists are shown, and their wanted quantity
is changed when they are in the selection (if =0, they can be hidden, so it’s
clearer what’s left).

Third question: if I buy stuff from a wanted list in a store, do I have any way
to know how many parts are missing AND what they are? I tried with a store, I
put the items in my cart, and when I went into my wanted list nothing had changed
and I could find anywhere what was missing. You'd think that if I bought
it I'd know, but I did buy something in the past and my wanted list hasn't
changed, so I just assume the wanted list isn't linked to the buyings you
do.

The only direct way to see what’s “pre-carted”/selected and what’s still to buy
is in the Wanted Items tab on the Buy page.  Once the carts are created or if
the page is closed, you can’t go back to check.

If you’re in a store, there’s no easy way to see if your wanted lists are completed.
You can search your wanted list in the store (use the “Wanted List” link at the
top of the “Shop” tab).  You’ll see the quantities in the cart… but you’ll need
to check line by line and it’s only for the cart in this store, not other carts
in other stores.

Once an order is placed, you can use the “Apply order” feature in your WLs (top
right).  It will change the Have fields to match your order.
Beware though: it’s stupid and has no memory.  So you can apply it twice on the
same list!  And if you have several WLs, and they share some lots, it’ll let
you think you bought everything when you might not.
(For instance, you have 10x Red 2x4 bricks in WL1 and WL2, so a total of 20x,
you buy 15x, you apply the order to the two lists, and the two lists have a “Have”
of 10x.  Not good.)

So that means managing your WLs by hand or with third-party tools (like BrickStore
(app) or Rebrickable (website)).
