Would love to have Bricklink add a new feature that would show the list price
for sets at their time of release when known.

At one time I supported that idea. The more I thought about it I changed my
opinion. The original price has nothing to do with the value of a set. A lot
of buyers are not collectors or AFOL. They buy for birthdays and other holidays.
There might be an older set that is now triple or more in value. The buyer
sees that and wonder what is wrong with the seller or Bricklink. It also does
not take in to account the condition of the box, instruction, and brick.
Doing this might drive the casual buyer off and they go somewhere else.

The problem with MSRP is that you would need/desire to list all the MSRPs for
every market TLG sold the set. There could be dozens, and there is no guarantee
that any retailer actually observed it. When the NBA collector sets came out
in 2003, every retailer listed them for $5.99, excelptWalMart which went with
$7.99.

At one time brickset was listing MSRPs, but I don’t know if that is still true.

Yes it is: we show them on set details pages, under the 'prices' tab.
