Pay attention, this is important.

On Sunday 9 July (two weeks away), USPS is making changes that will affect us.

First, First Class Parcel Service is going away, and being merged into,
and rebranded as, a new service USPS Ground Advantage™. Also being retired
is Parcel Select - Ground. Certain destination entry pieces of Parcel
Select to continue to exist, but it’s unlikely any BL shippers are using those.

The new service, USPS Ground Advantage™ is being branded as such to make
it clear that it’s moving by ground, and to distance it from USPS First Class
letter mail. GA will be very similar to UPS Ground (aka brown). The initial rates
for USPS Ground Advantage are best described in three parts: up to 15.999 oz,
same rates that we currently have for FCPS. From 1-lb to 20-lbs, very similar
to current rates for Parcel Select, with some cells being slightly lower, 21-lbs
to 70 lbs will be the same as existing rates for Parcel Select.

For USPS Ground Advantage / Commercial Parcels - Cubic … some cells that are
in the smaller cubic size (0.1 - 0.3) may see slight reductions. For cells that
are larger cubics, you will see slight increases.

I have seen some references that suggest that all parcels will now have $100
of insurance. Unable to confirm that in a USPS document at the moment.

New (draft) Notice 123 is available here https://pe.usps.com/PriceChange/Index

Thank you! I had no clue about the changes.

Just when I think I've got shipping all figured out and made easy for buyers,
now with this new system you'll be able to ship packages 1lb and it won't
have to go Priority.

Wow. The price increase included in that notice is crazy high for priority. I'm
glad they are offering another solution because I'm pretty sure they just
priced all of my buyers out of the market. (padded flat rate envelope was $8.65
will be $10.40)

Anyone have a new shipping method table that they are willing to share for the
settings page?

The commercial price for a PM padded flat rate envelope says $8.80 in the "PM
Comm" file

Guess I didn't scroll down far enough to find the commercial rates. I was
looking at retail. Thanks for pointing that out.

Okay, question:

Is it possible to add different postal zones within the US? How are we supposed
to accurately charge with this new shipping program? If I ship a package to
zone 9 that weighs 5 lbs its $10 more than if I ship zone 1. There's no
way I can average that out and make it work financially.

Without some changes to the shipping tables available this will cause all of
my packages over 1 pound to become invoice only. My buyer's won't be
able to used instant check-out. And yes, I mail packages over 1 pound on a daily
basis.

An answer …

BrickLink needs to fix the carrier pre-defined rates. They were put into place
many years ago, possibly as much as 10 years. They are wrong, badly out of date,
and do not properly reflect zones.

The entire process can be implemented without any API calls to USPS. USPS makes
files available with all the rates, plus there is a pair of files that allow
determination of zone based on any 3-digit zip prefix as shipping point and as
destination. The files are not only simple, but they are compact. The two files
I am referring to are less than 2.5 MB total, and could easily be held in a table.

I’m not the programmer, developer, analyst, nor part of the team that establishes
priorities, but this needs to be done, because, as of 9 July, the USPS First
Class rates will be describing a shipping method that has been retired and no
longer exists.

What weight and to what zone ? Those are the factors that decide which way prices
are moving.

For weight let's say less than one pound and for zone let's say the package
would be destined for California.

Zones are not just locations or states, they are basically distance relative
to your shipping location.

I see. So then I suppose shipping from Ohio to California would be zone 8?

I love pirate ship since they always summarize any UPS or USPS changes. The following
is their summary of this change:

* Only some rates are changing—and they're mostly getting cheaper!
* Priority Mail rates are either staying the same or getting up to $4.83 cheaper
🤑
* Ground Advantage rates for packages under 1 pound (First Class Package) are
staying the same 👍
* Ground Advantage rate changes for packages over 1 pound (Parcel Select) are
mixed—some rates are increasing up to $1.06, while others are decreasing up to
$3.
* Media Mail rates are increasing by 7% across the board.
* Signature Confirmation is increasing to $3.40
* Everything else is staying the same 🥳

Ok, I took a look at the information Pirate Ship put out and as far as I can
tell Priority Mail over 1 pound to destinations west of Indiana are huge in pricing.
is this because they cannot publish what the price will be ? Zone 9 is like $18+
for a 1 pound box shipping priority. I am hoping someone else has looked at this
besides me and can shed light on if this is real . Or if I am looking at this
wrong.
thx
