Some long anticipated sets were recently released and I want to buy certain new
parts and minifigures from them. I’ve been checking Bricklink twice a day for
3 weeks, but those sets are still in “inventory pending approval” status so I
can’t buy parts via the inventory lists. I’ve tried searching using Lego’s part
numbers but results are not found.
I noticed one seller has a group of figures from one of the sets in his store
listed as “custom item”. But when I search the words “custom item” in Bricklink’s
search bar, it only shows 19 entries and does not have the figures that person
has in their store. Apparently I’m doing something wrong.
How do I find the stores which have the new parts & figs I’m looking for from
the new sets?

For the parts that might be exclusive to a set, you pretty much just have to
wait. For figures, if you type in ID's for them you can often times find
them ASAP. Example: search "sw1270" and you will find a new Star Wars
figure and you can purchase it, but it is still not attached to the set yet.
Hope that helps. BrickLink relies on users to enter in inventory/pictures/etc
so it really comes down to when someone invests their time to do it. Summer
slow down probably doesn't speed it up as everyone spending money and time
on other things right now.
By using that method I was able to find a few of the things I'm looking for.
Nobody has them for sale at the moment but at least I was able to add them to
my wish list for easier monitoring.
