Thank you my amazing customers for being patient with me, 10 orders in and here's
what I've learnt:
It may look brown, but it's reddish brown
There are a waaaay to many Lego colours (see above)
Sorting by colour is the ultimate noob mistake
Postage prices just went up (woops) and postage isn't as simple as I thought
When you're cataloging late at night and duplicate things it hurts later!
When you buy second hand lego there are always a few non-Lego pieces
My wife doesn't appreciate bags of Lego everywhere, thanks brickarchitect.com
for the tips!
Brexit sucks (selling in the EU from the UK is super complicated!)
I still haven't worked out whether it's better to part out or sell the
set (having never successfully sold a set)
Most importantly it's been great to introduce my daughter to Lego and always
have something cool to build with her without buying new sets!

Definitely a learning curve but you and your wife will figure it out. We started
out by parting out new sets just to familiarize ourselves with the many different
colors. We also use brickognize which is amazing to identify parts/figs. Welcome
to the hobby and the community. It has been an awesome experience for me and
my kids. Well now my kids are older and not too involved but....still awesome.

Thanks for a good laugh Sorting by color.. this one gets pretty much everyone
For a small shop - sell the sets whole, don't part them out. Although - sometimes
selling just a few parts and minifigs can get you the same money as selling the
entire set, but it is somewhat an exception to the rule.
Use BrickStore to import the set inventory, auto-set prices to 6-month avg, sort
by lot value and see how many lots you need to select until you reach the value
of the set itself. If you enjoy running the store - I'd encourage you to
try this evaluation even for seemingly common sets. Sometimes you can get surprised.
Just don't forget to think about the time you will spend organizing ALL the
parts into your inventory, then imagine how long it would take you to pick it
all piece by piece or lot by lot. Lots of parts will actually give you a negative
value once you account for everything. But once again - if you enjoy the
process then there's nothing wrong with that

You really can't be selling without a color chart or at least a set of good
reference parts. (Find a printed part in each color to be sure.)

Have to agree (from a distance of course!)
I still haven't worked out whether it's better to part out or sell the
set (having never successfully sold a set)
This is always going to be a gray area. Selling a set gets easier as it ages
and it's no longer available in stores. Parting out may offer less profit,
but increases your lot and part count which leads to more orders.
Most importantly it's been great to introduce my daughter to Lego and always
have something cool to build with her without buying new sets!
As long as you are not building the 'New' stuff, then this sounds great!

You've got some duplications and misspellings in your terms.
Thanks for the help! Might add to my list that you tend to forget to update your
splash and terms after day one! Will do a nice refresh tomorrow!

As a newbie, I appreciate the tips. Congratulations on 10 sales! I wish you many
more to come.
One thing I didn't add that everyone seems to say in this topic is add as
many lots as possible! That really is true, I only got my first order when I
was nearing 1000 lots!

Nice summary, I've been there recently on almost every single point (except
that I haven't dared attempting to sell to Britain so far... ).
Keep going, it gets more confusing every day!*
* more fun! I meant to say more fun! Forget confusing!
I recall many years ago that I received an order around 100 lots from Gustav.
It took me 8 hours to pull. Guess why!
BTW how about parting a set out and adding it to your inventory before you actually
sort and verify the parts in the set?

Ive managed to create 3/4 part sets from old bags which I’ve sorted out and just
left in the bag with a remake that it comes from the set. So I do have to pick
from two locations but seems to work!
My physical inventory still isn’t that organize that it’s easy to add more parts
as I catalog them which is the next challenge!

Congrats on your 10th sale! As a noob myself I can't emphasize enough, the
importance of a color chart! It's also pretty fun to build . There are
some great tips in this thread too that I didn't know about. Thanks all,
and congrats again!
