| I've built an 0-4-0 Loco using an L motor. The Loco runs great when connected
directly to the battery(6x AAA). However when I connect it via the 2.4ghz receiver
it struggles to work. The receiver is working, the settings are correct and has
the green light. Is it possible the battery box is at fault? Struggling to work
out where the problem is.

Is the total load for both the motor and the receiver within the power supply
rating of the battery box?
I'm not sure if the power consumption of the receiver plus motor would be
within specs, unless you've tested them with a multimeter to ensure they're
consuming the rated amount of power.
Study circuit information thoroughly and ensure that the components are within
specs. If the receiver appears to be working but the motor still struggles, try
swapping out the receiver for a different unit, and see if that changes anything.
Also remember that AAA batteries might hold less total load capacity than AA
batteries or larger. They also don't fit into the Power Functions battery
box that I have here, I know that they take AA batteries. I guess you're
talking about LEGO Power Functions or is it a different motorization system?
Just my thoughts on your post, you might need to be more specific about the setup.
If the battery box is non-LEGO then support for it here might be very limited.
Cheers ...

Thanks for your advice. The battery box I'm using is a lego 8000 (copy) and
I'm using six lithium ion batteries. I'll swap battery packs and receivers
to see if that makes a difference and report back the results

I've swapped battery boxes to the one on the Left of the image. Both take
6 x AAA batteries The Loco now works with the receiver. There is a slight difference
cosmetically to the boxes. The box on the left has a push button and a power
adjustment. The other a siding switch only. I'm guessing that the box is
faulty in some way even though it does work well without the receiver. A bit
of a puzzler.

You know none of these boxes are LEGO, don’t you?

Yes, they are both non lego battery boxes. Is the forum exclusively for LEGO
components, if it is then please accept my apologies.

The marketplace is for LEGO only but talking about other brands on the forums
is not forbidden in itself (provided it complies with the ToS, that it’s not
ads for knock-offs, etc.).
For instance, asking for help identifying items can of course be about non LEGO,
and there’s the Off Topic topic to talk about mostly anything.
Here I was mainly asking if you were aware they weren’t LEGO. In this case,
that might partly explain your problems and, generally, it’s easier to help when
we know what we’re talking about

Thanks for your reply, my Loco build is about 60% lego parts with the remainder
brick's of unknown parentage. As you rightly point out I possibly wouldn't
have a problem with genuine LEGO battery boxes. Unfortunately this type of box
has been retired by LEGO.

Pity. If only there was a website where you could buy all sorts of LEGO items,
including retired ones, New or Used….
Oh! But there’s one, I just found about it: https://www.bricklink.com/

| Are you talking about the receiver? Because I think there was an issue
with powering L motors and that's why they introduced the v2 model. I think
this model is also quite rare and not easy to acquire.
