Whilst onsite payment is very good for payment methods it accepts, it does have
the issue regarding having all of the payment processed immediately.
Would it be possible to develop and implement a method whereby the payment for
the order and the payment for the shipping costs be split up?
This is for larger orders, and I believe this could be done through BrickLink's
PayPal Onsite method, an extra step to allow the seller time to compute and input
the shipping costs properly is what I'm concerned about.
This is basically a delayed payment for the shipping costs. It would help costs
from being incorrectly calculated. Not all items in the BrickLink catalog have
a weight, and something needs to be added to allow proper determination of shipping
costs, in my opinion.
There are features currently available that can help with this although PayPal
Onsite being an "instant" checkout option is not always the best option.
I'm not suggesting tax should be evaded, a simple and legitimate amount of
time for determination of the shipping costs by the seller is all that I'm
asking be implemented.
While this may seem like a suggestion the first step is to figure out if it can
be a suggestion.
What do the admins think? Can it be implemented? If not, why not?

Then don’t use Auto-invoice.
BL is already complicated, paying twice for an order wouldn’t help. (I don’t
think it would even be legal, at least in EU.)
Two payments means two lots of paypal (fixed) fees. It also means two payments
made for the same order, which causes problems if the buyer has to claim a refund.
It also gives the seller an issue if the buyer claims they placed two orders
and the seller can only prove one was delivered.
You can set up the checkout not to auto invoice if dimensions are missing or
you can turn it off completely. Or you can add dimensions where they are missing
for items in your store.
