Hi,

I just wanted to discuss this a bit. As a lot of us know, the Piraka and all
the other 2006 Bionicle figures were given "Pearl Light Gray" armor.
It was the new colour at the time. But, according to Bricklink's inventory,
The Toa Nuva armor (as well the Toa Metru weapons) are "Pearl Light Grey!"

Pearl Light Grey was undoubtably the 2006 armor colour, so why is this appearing
in the earlier years? And what makes this infuriating is seeing the hundreds
of "Pearl Light Gray" Nuva pieces being sold by unsuspecting sellers,
especially if you're after a particular variant -- it makes hunting it
a pain and a gamble.

Can this change?

Are you referring to the unrecognized Cool Silver?

Doubtfully, I think they are referring to the darker 131 parts.

Thanks for providing the link -- I didn't know Bricklink had a statement
on colours. I read it and I somewhat understand it. But it appears they'll
be fixing the issue in the future. But for the moment, it makes buying parts
a hassle, as I just experienced recently, where I ordered 6 of the same part
labeled "Pearl Light Gray", and received 5 of 1 colour and 1 of another.
Same goes for a couple of other "Pearl Light Gray" pieces I bought.

Anyway, I mainly wanted to vent and gain some kind of understanding on the issue.

Which parts? You may have just received variants of standard Pearl Light Gray
and not the unrecognized color.

Maybe. The pieces were Bionicle Weapon Air Katana, Bionicle Weapon Ice Skate
/ Ice Blade Half, and Bionicle Shoulder Armor. All I'm saying is that there's
a clear difference in the colours, as some of these pieces were used in 2003
sets, while others were likely used in 2008 or so (depending on the piece, of
course).

The “Ice Blade” part only comes in one Pearl Light Gray color. You have variants
of the same official LEGO color.

The “Shoulder Armor” part does come in both PLG AND the unrecognized color. It
is possible that you have both of them, but it is also likely that you have two
different Pearl Light Gray variants.

Yep, they're just variations on the same color.

To split the issue up a little further:
- In general, parts in silver that were made of ABS plastic or the like were
usually always consistent (as a BIONICLE fan, I'd point to the socket pieces
of the Bohrok-Kal, though those instead had translucency issues I've heard).
- Post-06 weapon and armor pieces, which were typically made of softer plastics,
were fairly consistent, and matched the ABS plastic well.
- Pre-06 weapon/armor pieces were inconsistent, the majority being almost as
dark as modern (post-2010) silver. However, this was caused by inconsistency
in the color, and was never meant to be a separate color from those hard plastic
parts. I've also seen several weapon pieces only available in 02-03 sets
that match the consistent post-06 hue (much like the ice skates mentioned).

Ultimately, it's just an arbitrary color inconsistency, just like "brittle
blue", the newer trans-light blue parts, pearl gold variations, or "rust
red".
