It happens the parts I want to buy don't meet minimum buy treshold. Sometimes
with a large gap, but usually with a small gap.
When trying to find some extra items to reach the treshold, it happens I go into
a next shipping band, making it more expensive for the second time.

My suggestion is really simple: add a "give-extra-money" (or "donation"
box to reach the min. buy treshold.
Let's say I have 3.75 USD in my cart and the min. buy is 5.00 USD. I just
fill in 1.25 USD in the "donation" box (a sort of a "special service
product" to reach min. buy treshold while still keeping the same weight
and dimensions of my order.

You could even think about linking the extra money to a charity. If the seller
would configure his shop saying he allows going under min. buy treshold when
the buyer pays the gap to charity (preferably managed by BrickLink, so the surplus
is automatically donated to charity).

Voted yes. However, I do wonder if people would take advantage of this, and we
would never again see a store with no minimum buy…. 😬

Can’t you just contact the store?

Also, if a seller wants to do that, they could remove their min buy and put a
fee for small orders instead.

They could even make custom, weihtless items for that: “PDF instructions for
charity X” and give instructions for a very simple model.  It could even be a
real model related to the charity.

A lot of effort for a single store to make, when the feature could just be "in
the platform" for the seller to use (if they want to).
Besides: you would need a lot of items for various prices to complete the gap.

buy 1 piece or fil lup a box... it's only $5.00.

Ok, but until all stores start removing the min. buy treshold, it remains a problem
(regardless of what you do in your specific store).

Ok, but until all stores start removing the min. buy treshold, it remains a problem
(regardless of what you do in your specific store).

It's not "a threshold": a minimum sale is a minimum.
It's a policy, a term, a choice from the seller.

Also, otherwise:

* people would pay extras to the seller without providing BrickLink fees on sales,
which isn't correct,

* shops will then have silly competitive prices (down to zero), but will simply
ask for "an extra donation of 10€"

* what about taxes, are this donation dubject to VAT, Sales taxes, whatever?

* PayPal: will not allow partial refund, so the donation will be refunded in
case of problem...

Millions of problems with this proposal, which wants to ignore people ask a minimum
sale *for reasons*.

Euh, it's still a treshold you need to reach before being able to buy. But
it's just discussing the meaning of words now.

"Millions". Really?

But as I have answered just now in another reply:

I'm sorry I confused people with the charity part. Forget the charity part.
Or even the term "donation".

The main part is really simple: add an amount of money to an order without actually
ordering extra items to reach that min. buy. Just to be able to buy the part
you really need, without forcing you to search for extra items raising the shipping
fee, while still satisfying the seller having his min. income on the order.

It's not!
Re-read?

* people would pay extras to the seller without providing BrickLink fees on

which isn't correct,

ask for "an extra donation of 10€"

* what about taxes, are this donation dubject to VAT, Sales taxes, whatever?

* PayPal: will not allow partial refund, so the donation will be refunded in
case of problem...

etc.

Solutions:

* buy in good shops with no minimum, like, ermmmm... mine

* buy the minimum because it's what the shop seller wants.
He doesn't want more money for the same order, just a "better" order.

if anyone wants to buy a $0.05 1x1 plate from me & pay me $2.00 for it to save
on shipping fees.. i will 100% allow it.

not sure how much sense it makes, but hey.. you saved on those shipping fees!

If there's a discrepancy, or a cash back, the "donation" part is
gone.
So, it's not a donation.

starting off a sentence stating "Paypal: will not allow partial refund,"
is a definitive statement. regardless of what you write afterwards.

structure your sentences correctly.

PaPal DOES allow partial refunds, stating they do not is incorrect.

here.. -- " PayPal will allow partial refunds on payments received,
BUT ( not So...) if the purchase is disputed, the entire amount paid is subject
to be refunded"

why?
no, everyone here is communicating in English Proper. including you.

just take the 'L' & move on...

OP already stated to forget the terminogy 'Donation ' & 'Charity'
back on May 31st, why you continue to pound the sand on it i have no clue. you
even acknowledged that comment by the OP & responded to it.

Minimum buys are there because low value orders are not worth fulfilling, not
to force a buyer to pay a certain amount in one transaction. Why would a seller
accept a small value order (and paypal fees on that donation) just because the
buyer is making a charity donation? Plus it is a mess for tax purposes. Is it
the buyer or seller making the donation?

But the total weight will be higher. It will require manual effort by the seller
to remove the items and so on.
Also with instant checkout, the order might be in a next, more expensive weight
band .

One point you don't want to understand (sorry) since the beginning: some
people don't like to have tips or money "for nothing".

Shops that are requiring a "better" order often WANT a "better"
order.
And nothing else.

No, you cannot do that if you are paying with IC, because then you are also telling
the seller that they need to do a refund which comes around full cycle to the
sale minimum.

The correct way of doing this is to allow an IC authorize for the minimum
amount, then the seller can capture it when they’re ready to ship. This goes
back to my suggestion (which is aging like a good cheese) about making PP and
Stripe payments two step (authorize then capture). Two step could eliminate every
micro-refund for parts shortages. /soap_box

The seller would have to manually re-upload every part bought "as extra"
because when ordered they are removed from the Shop inventory.

This idea would be a pure nightmare to implement/use.

I guess you could just order them and tell the seller you don't want the
extra parts.

No, you cannot do that if you are paying with IC, because then you are also telling
the seller that they need to do a refund which comes around full cycle to the
sale minimum.

Yes, it would be a hassle. But then the first and simplest solution of all -
contact the seller before ordering - was also rejected as it requires too much
effort, so I doubt any solution will work.

Maybe the simplest solution is to both want and buy more LEGO. I find it hard
to believe that a buyer cannot find a reasonably valuable but light piece in
most stores (a minifigure, a torso, a decorated brick, etc) or that the store
remains the most competitive if a much larger value unwanted item needs to be
added.

Why would they need to refund? This is not to do with shortages, it is a buyer
making a "donation" to meet a minimum order value. Refunding would put
the order under the minimum price.

/soap_box

I think that the tmie of charging is a different issue. The current charging
method would still work, if only there was a way for a buyer to accept an extra
service fee equal to the difference between the order and the store minimum.
But that has issues too, when it comes to refunds for missing or incomplete orders,
or orders where a buyer returns items especially if not all the items.

The correct way to solve this, is to implement a (seller optional) variable service
charge. The service charge being the positive difference between the sub-total
and the minimum order. It has to be handled as a service charge because of the
taxing aspects involved. A service charge is something that BL can clearly
assign a tax implication, based on a given taxing district. Once the subtotal
is equal or greater than the minimum, it vanishes.

You can always ask the seller to increase the price of the part(s) you want to
buy.

Now, especially in Europe (and for pros)...
I'm not even sure this is even authorized by Law

I don't have any minimum, so it's for a decade maybe I've guessed
it can be a problem for buyers.

I try to help the OP, but hey - finally I'm VERY happy buyers are not liking
other shops fees

End for me on this subject.

so if i buy that , & that only, does the shipment come wth tracking ?
also, if it never ships & seller cancels order, will the Bricklink Admin allow
negative feedback on that purchase for non-shipment / non-delivery?

actually never heard of "selling a Fee"

if this is truely allowed, can i sell a $5.00 email response service charge fee
for $1.00 USD...?

i mean we could charge $5.00 if you want us to respond to an message, but hey,
i'll sell you 1 response for $1.00

Isn't that the whole idea with call/put options on the stock market?
You sell a right, which you can use, but do not HAVE to use....
Ridiculous system, based on speculation regarding prices going a certain direction.
Aliens looking from the outside at this mechanisme for sure will call us doomed
(that, is providing they speak/think/communicate in the English language) .

not sure , i am not a Stock Marketer-ite. (???)

not selling a "right".. selling a discounted fee to a standard email
response service charge fee,
you can message us anything, if you want a reply, you would have to buy responses
at the $1.00 each rate. otherwise we would charge the standard $5.00 email response
service charge fee.
it's actually a good deal when you think about it... you get to enjoy an
authentic reply to your message, from me, at a 80% off discounted rate...

*facepalm

Well, you can't buy just that, because the fee to reach the minimum buy is
less than the minimum buy itself ($0.79 vs. $4.00).

Even if you tried to buy both of them, you would still fall short of the minimum.

Of course, if the fee was higher or the minimum was lower, you could, but why
anyone would do that is beyond me.

Voted YES. However when I am facing this problem I just go sort the sellers inventory
by the price and see if I could use some of the more expensive items. This way
I can sometimes come across some rare pieces that can be re-sold.

You can do the same, but if you just really want to donate instead - message
the seller and tell them to keep those items.

You could always contact the seller and ask if they would be willing to make
an exception, but you can't force someone to make a sale they don't want.
