| I have a buyer who says there is an printing error on
They are going to send me a picture of the error later.
I have never run into this before. As a seller, what would you do in this circumstance?
I do not have any helmets or minifigs with that helmet in stock. I want to treat
my customer right, however, this is a new one for me.
Any opinions welcome.

Wonder what they would have done had they ordered directly from lego? or toys
r us, or walmart.
I think most people would just go to Lego. I don't think someone would hold
Walmart responsible for a printing error

You should ALWAYS go to the vendor, never the mfg!

You may actually be right. . . 😬
I am not sure how that happened, but I probably accidentally grabbed one of my
misprinted helmets with holes instead of the intended part! I can send
another picture of the piece if necessary.

It was - I just checked the part again, and the image is correct (the misprinted
piece is the one on the left, and both helmets are the version without holes).
I got confused when it was suggested that one of the helmets had holes, so I
thought that I could have made a mistake when taking the picture (I did not).
Apologies for the extra confusion!! 😬

Indeed ones like that usually end up in least favourite lists. Id recommend
blocking them after a refund and maybe sharing the username to help prevent others
from running into that buyer

I will not be sharing any other information here, it is a risk we take as sellers.
They have been pleasant and understanding thus far and do not deserve a public
shaming.
I contacted Lego CS and they will be sending them a new one. Lego CS noticed
the cheeks were not printed or outlined properly, so it is a bigger issue than
even my customer noticed.

Ah ok as there have been some buyers who will order new figure parts then check
each one under a microscope to find any imperfection and then “ask” for a refund
which is what this one sounded like and those ones usually end up on stop lists
fast

Standard printing variation. Perfect prints are hard to find on any printed part.

It is more noticeable in-hand; I just was taking the picture at an angle to try
to get both the misprint and the normal part equally in the shot.

| Printing errors on elaborate SW helmets is nothing new .. there's even a
market for that, I believe
If you don't have a spare proper one to send him, just refund him. Up to
you if you want it back
That's what I would do
Cheers,
Ole

Generally I always try to fix minor defects when a buyer messages us first time
round but I also give the buyer fair warning going forward with a message along
the lines of:-
"Sorry to hear you are disappointed with your order however it should be
mentioned that minor hairline scratches, blemishes and print defects are always
a possibility with new parts just the same as how you may receive them from a
sealed set as the parts are stored loose and able to rub together and Legos quality
control is by no means perfect!
I’m happy to try and replace them for you on this occasion but going forward
I’m afraid when it comes to very minor defects like this, what you receive will
always be a bit of a lottery for want of a better word as I hope you can also
appreciate that we don’t have the benefit of cherry picking our stock either
but obviously if there are significant flaws/damage then we will of course always
assist and take full responsibility to resolve
The main problem here though is that it wouldn't be feasible for us in terms
of time and resources to inspect each and every part with a magnifying glass
before it goes out the door which is something this level of service would require.
The other thing to keep in mind is that even if we tried to do this, what looks
okay to us may not always look okay to someone else and if you look long and
hard enough at any part you can usually eventually spot something and unlike
a customer we wouldn't have the benefit of time to inspect each an every
part with this same degree of detail
I do appreciate you may be a collector looking for absolute perfection on all
your parts but I fear on Bricklink you will struggle to find a seller who is
able to offer this level of service and still remain a viable business on Bricklink?"
Also when a buyer/collector messages us asking about condition and/or if we can
take photos of parts before ordering. We simply advise that we cannot offer this
level of service (unless particularly high value!) and can only guarantee that
our parts are NEW and will be free of any significant defects that are viewable
and obvious with a quick glance of the naked eye!
If minor defects or hairline scratches are important for a collector we always
openly advise against them purchasing from our store on the basis of not being
able to guarantee against this and not wanting to disappoint going forward...
As a general rule I think hardcore collectors also need to consider what is fair
responsibility of the seller and what is responsibility of their own particular
high standards of collecting? For instance if the part has a very minor imperfections
that most buyers would settle for or perhaps not even notice? then the collector
may need to consider it reasonable for them to re-source/re-purchase and replace
any parts that they themselves want or think can be improved upon?
