| Please make changes to the following inventory:
* Delete 3 Part 42074 Milky White Bionicle 2 x 3 Axle Connector with Tooth (Alternate) (match ID 2)
* Change 3 Part White 42074 Bionicle 2 x 3 Axle Connector with Tooth {match ID 2 to 0}
Comments from Submitter:
Are we sure this “alternate” isn’t just a white part lacking colorant? This part is made of a softer plastic and can come in many different shades. I can’t find an element number for it.

Maybe it is lacking colorant, but the question is if that was meant to be or
not. Imo we should not remove this part in Milky White, just because we didn't
find a PCC for it (yet).
Milky white still appears in a set from 2008 with parts like this
And we definately shouldn't change the ones from the 60's - 80's
which also appear in White and Milky White
------------------------------
They really look different (the top one really looks Milky White) and sellers
are already splitting these for a very long time.

I doubt the color variation is intentional. With the new LEGO data, we now have
at least two more confirmed appearances of this color in sets.
I found a few other parts in this color:
2384 - 238420 - For unprinted electric pieces from before 1996
6180 - 4108166 - Unused
2346 - 4111981 - I think this part can be seen in the official image for those
1998 technic sets. Do you have these?
42611 - 4189252/4213870 - Now has an official render, but the color is very odd
45590 - 4191496 - Used for functional assemblies/Unused
51661 - 4286974 - Unused
I know of at least ten more used for functional assemblies, but they don’t need
their own part entries here. Softer plastics are partly to blame for the assumption
that Rust was ever a real color, Glow in the Dark pieces, and this
not looking like its intended color.
The existence of these parts in inventories allows sellers to charge different
prices for pieces that might not even exist, which is a major problem when it
comes to variants. “Copper” 48495s still sell for an average of $0.76 per piece
used, while Reddish Gold swords sell for $3.36 per piece used, despite being
the same color.
This has turned into a PSA for buyers looking for 48495 in Reddish Gold. Just
buy “Copper” swords and save yourself a few bucks.

Which two do you mean?
You might be right about the color variation not being intentional.
But if it's seen as White by LEGO, I also think it's strange that it
only shows as alternate color in one 2003 set, while White is showing from 2002
up to 2006 set releases. Although this set is one of a few non-Bionicle sets.

Yes, but imo we must not forget that besides a great catalog that is getting
better day by day, Bricklink is a Marketplace and members do want to know
if that 'Red' piece looks like 'Rust' and if that 'White'
piece actually looks 'Milky White'.

I see this in a different way. The differences in color do show for these red
/ rust and white / milky white parts and if buyers want that specific color,
sellers who make a difference can list these for whatever price they want
Removing the alternate color from inventories, won't stop this. Eventually
the sales will go down though, so sellers are 'punished' because they
make a difference.
(I think I mentioned some of this before and I am repeating myself )
The swords are a different story. As far as I can see the listings were never
changed after the last Copper Sword was changed to Reddish Gold.

Sets 3432 and 3433 now have 4213870 in their official inventories from LEGO.com.
I believe these were added a few days ago, though, I added this and 4189252 a
few months ago. It is strange that this is the only set with this 42074 variant.
These technic pieces aren’t very consistent. I have a 6538b in Pearl VLG that
looks much more like Milky White. That’s probably also what happened with this
part, seeing as that one also doesn’t have an element number.

For now I would prefer to leave the inventory as it is. This part in Milky White
was added to the catalog and to this inventory by the same member, so at that
point I see no reason to remove it from the inventory again.
As for the color issue. As you know we are dealing with a lot of them at the
moment. This milky white part in this inventory doesn't have any impact on
the color time-line, so imo it's the least important 'color issue'.
Thanks for understanding.
