Is there any sales in used instructions, compared to the work in actual selling
them?

Has anyone had success in selling bundles of 10-20 thematic instruciton for -
for example - Classic Castle sets (6098-6097-60900-6086-etc.) ?

I'm looking at 10-20 kg of instruction on mostly excellent condition, and
I would be sad to just recycle them.

I think vintage instructions sell in cases where the scans are not available
or not good.

In my experience, used instructions in good condition sell pretty well. Mainly:
vintage, Star Wars, or other licensed products (the older the better.) However,
it is a hassle to ship them. You need to protect them from bending damage with
cardboard and from water damage with some kind of envelope or polybag. It's
difficult to pack them with the plastic parts that will inevitably also be in
the order and the weight makes the postage expensive. Frequently, I ship them
separately to save money and hassle.

So, if you have the materials to ship them safely, my advice would be to list
them but price them fairly high. They'll sell eventually!

Used Instruction Books do sell, the older the better, as already mentioned.
Some are worth only 1 or 2 Krone, many worth only 10 Krone, a few may be worth
150 Krone or more. 💰💰💰

If you have the space to store them and to keep them organized, I would keep
them and try to sell them. When they do get sold, you can think of it as Found
Money (fundet penge). 💲💲💲

If over a long time they do not sell, then you can recycle them or burn them.
🔥🔥🔥🔥

To ship instructions, you can purchase packaging to protect them, or make your
own flat packages from cut up Lego boxes. ✂️✂️✂️

For me as a collector original instructions are definitely part of the set, so
I do pay for instructions of vintage sets (occasionally). If somebody wants a
set for playing, they'll probably not care too much if it's the instructions
are original or self-printed.

Some sell better than others. I have instructions for 36 different sets and
I mostly sell the instructions for the larger sets like

Set No: 71043 Name: Hogwarts Castle
*
71043-1 (Inv) Hogwarts Castle
5975 Parts, 28 Minifigures, 2018
Sets: Harry Potter: Sculptures
and

Set No: 92176  Name: NASA Apollo Saturn V {Reissue}
*
92176-1 (Inv) NASA Apollo Saturn V {Reissue}
1969 Parts, 2020
Sets: LEGO Ideas (CUUSOO): Space Exploration
and they can go for $10 or more if you keep an eye on how they're selling.
The smaller ones like

Set No: 75280 Name: 501st Legion Clone Troopers
*
75280-1 (Inv) 501st Legion Clone Troopers
258 Parts, 6 Minifigures, 2020
Sets: Star Wars: Star Wars The Clone Wars
I haven't sold anything from and some
of them I have priced at $0.005.

Shipping rates can be an eye popper. They're both heavy and awkwardly sized,
so it's not uncommon to have actual shipping rates of $10 for a multi-booklet
set of instructions here in the States.

I refurbish Lego sets and sell them on eBay. If a set does not have the instructions,
I buy them. It does not matter the theme to me. In my 19 years' experience
selling sets, I find that sets with instructions sell better, faster, and more
consistently than those that do not have instructions.

Yes, they do weigh more and therefore cost more in shipping but if I find a store
that has a lot of the instructions I am looking for, I will contact that store
and ask if they can ship them Media Mail which is a cheaper shipping option for
instructions, catalogues, and sticker sheets. You cannot send pieces this way
though.

I am sure there are many other members on Bricklink that feel the same way.

My opinion: If you have the room to store them safely and you have the time and
inclination to list them, you will have another source of income even if they
do sell slowly.

I thought catalogues and instructions couldn't ship Media Mail since they
contain advertising?

I've been told both yes and no by Post Office personnel over the years. Most
think it's allowed. Could never find out what the definitive answer is.

Media mail does work for all 3.

I agree with Cass T on this - I sell quite a few used instruction booklets and
empty boxes too, vintage and newer, mainly to resellers who want to finish the
set for the added revenue. I don’t seek them out to list (as I primarily focus
on used parts, not in parting out new sets) but if I have them, I find they sell
well for sure. If you have the time and storage space, go for it!

I've been chopping sets for more than 10years and I've thrown all of
the instruction manuals away. It takes up so much space and so heavy.

For older/vintage/classic sets there is a market for used instructions. Some
people lost the original instructions that came with the set and are looking
for a replacement. For more recent sets they do not sell as well.

+1 I’ve sold many older space instruction manuals for good money but unless it’s
super old or a somewhat old one from like Star Wars or the lord of the rings
or similar they go in the recycle bin for me

Classic ones are definitely worth doing. Anything from about 2010 onwards I wouldn't
bother with unless they are from large sets or decent licensed sets.
