| I just noticed something when trying to check something in old messages, and
I assume this is the case but couldn't find any info on it when searching
the forums. I can see history of old messages sent/received dating back to when
I started on BL, but it looks like anything that was a response to an order (such
as if I used the "message" link in the order itself) may purge along
with the order. Is this what's happening?
I double checked that recent messages that were sent this way show properly in
the outbox in the messages right now, and also show on the order itself. Does
this mean that in theory we shouldn't be using the "message" feature
in orders to keep a longer history in the messages?
Thanks!

I would be interested to know if adding a NEW Message attached to an old order
will prevent the entire order from being purged. Will a new message re-set the
clock on that order?

This I can say is not the case. We allow customers to keep their order open,
but on one occasion the order got purged at the expected date even after sending
the customer a message through the order form.

I suspected this.
I recall a purchase that never arrived. Every month or so, I sent a message
to the seller indicating that the order was not received. A few days before the
order was set to be purged, I added a final note to the order indicating still
not received. That order was purged on schedule. (and for 6 months I never got
any reply from the seller. oh well). It was a low-value order of parts.

I think if you had started an NSS it would not have been purged
