Off topic. Nice video! I found it interesting that at 7:55 he said a new mold
for Sting had to be made as the old was long gone. I had assumed things like
that remained on hand somewhere in case of just such a need.
My hopes of someone digging out the 8 spoke antenna mold...thoroughly dashed.

One would think but old molds do go missing or possibly destroyed. Remember
the monorail sets of the late 1990s and early 2000s? People have been begging
for reissues mostly to replace failing and worn out switches and motor and possibly
introduce 2 more tracks and boogie extension that were mentioned in patents and
never released, but LEGO can't make them anymore because supposedly the original
molds are long gone and it was costly to make new one. Monorail parts didn't
really turn profitable for them.

There was a monorail track kickstarter a few years ago that didn't pan out.
I think it was doomed from the get go as the plan was to produce in Germany.
$$$
Though, with only 3 sets and 2 being space, they never gave it a big try, There
was a 4th in the works. Space/water hybrid. IIRC, it was called Seatron.

Yep Sea-Tron. And before anyone says that's a MOC, show me a source of:
in yellow as well.
There are many more parts shown in picture that were never released in the color
as shown. One could use paint to change the color of solid colored parts but
no one can turn 10x10x12 quarter dome into trans-red

There weren't any dwarves other than Gimli and Gloin at the Council of Elrond.
At 6:14 in the linked vid, there are 3 dwarves. It's neat in the vid that
the designer said he was specifically told to clarify that the figure was not
Gloin. I wonder if it was TLG or the LOTR guys that wanted that clarified.

I think its 1 of the towers but even if the leak is accurate it wouldn't
even be for a long time still but who knows

but from the stage that the leak is from its still quite possible if not likely,
it would never see the light of day. but what gives it some credence is that
lots of the accounts that posted it were getting strikes from lego

One of the towers, so Orthanc or Barad-dur? Honestly, that's disappointing...
we already got Orthanc, and it's so large they would have to make this revamped
version impractically monstrous for it to be worth buying. Going along with that,
Barad-dur is basically a big Orthanc, just with a bit rockier base and two less
spires However if Barad-dur came with a Sauron minifig (which wouldn't
make much sense story wise, but what the hell, we need him and his mace in minifig
form) then all would be forgiven! I would be interested to see how they tackle
the eye, I would guess with a giant printed dish.
But I don't know why they're holding out on Minas Tirith. When Lego LOTR
was announced, if they had said they were only doing 3 sets, I would have bet
anything that Minas Tirith would be one of them, or at least a section of
it like the Uruk-hai Army set has a section of Helm's Deep. In my eyes, the
Battle of Pelennor Fields is a no-brainer set: it could have a part of the Minas
Tirith wall, Eowyn, the Witch King, the orc general Gothmog, a Fellbeast, and
maybe even a Mumakil and the Haradrim, none of which have yet to be produced
by Lego. It might be the biggest missing piece in the Lego LOTR lineup, it's
like the whole design and marketing teams skipped that part of the movie

My Sauron minifig prayers have been answered! Too bad it sounds only slightly
bigger than Orthanc (I know the true scale would be impossible to replicate,
even as a MOC, but here is the size comparison just for fun ). Imagine if they
included a play feature that causes the whole thing to come crashing down when
Frodo destroys the ring It will be cool to see how they go about the base,
and judging from those dimensions, it's probably packed with detail! I hope
even if it doesn't get released, we at least get pictures of it.

Just a bit of a warning, Jason. You cannot post any images of LEGO sets in the

*other designers smiling* "I've been told to say that this Dwarf that

My guess is that they were allowed to have another Dwarf but not call him Gloin,
and so designed him to look just as one would expect Gloin to look.
lor118 - currently named 'Gloin the Dwarf - White Hair' has already been
confirmed by the set designers to not be Gloin, but instead an unnamed dwarf.
Please rename to 'Dwarf - White Hair'
I see it was changed but calling him "unnamed" seems rather odd. Shouldn't
he just be described. There are many minifigs that represent unnamed characters
but they don't called called unnamed. For example the guy that was replaced
by Finch Dallow

On the other hand, the video also shows a part of the press release (that is
still online on lego.com) which states "additional elves and a dwarf (Gloin)
are also included"

So based on that I see no reason why we should not call him Gloin.
The set is based on the movie, and he is not named in the movie credits. Also
the description of the set does not name him. It is only a press release in which
he is named.
There have also been cases where LEGO refers to some minifigures in comics with
certain names but not called them that in the set. Wasn't there also problems
with characters like Scuba Iron Man where he is named that on the box but some
people wanted whatever mark number suit that was added to his name, but it was
rejected because it is not named that in the set.

I vote for “Dwarf (not Gloin or maybe)”.
I would go for Dwarf - White hair and beard (definitely not Gloin).
It both describes him and comes up in a search if people think it is Gloin.
It would be great to get some of their ancestors if they appear in any media,
if only for the funny names: Groin and Borin, and Gloin's uncle Fundin (how
much would he cost?).

Works for me

Groin Borin,
Need new LEGO,
Finding Fundin,
Needing dough,
Day out Dain,
Toiling I go,
Gloin morning,
Needing no mo’

He's not named in the movie credits, I think, because his role is not a speaking
one. From what I've read the elderly Dwarf who accompanies Gimli into Rivendell
in the film, played by the same actor who played Gimli, is supposed to be Gloin

Yes he's missing in the set description (which only mentions the "main"
characters), but the press release specifically lists the contents and minifigures
included the set, so there is no reason not to use that information.

Comics and other literature are often edited/published by other companies and
the contents can vary depending on region and language, that's why we don't
use them as sources for minifigure names etc. We only use information published
by LEGO itself on their website, in the instructions, in catalogs or on set boxes.

This is bringing back memories of the "Ice Planet Babe"
