I asked chatGPT and it said

“ Macroeconomics is like a big picture of the economy. Just like how you can
look at a picture of your family or your school and see how everyone is doing,
macroeconomics looks at how all the people in a country are doing with their
money and jobs.

One important thing that macroeconomics looks at is how much money people are
making in a country. This is called the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It's
like the amount of money your family makes in a year, but for an entire country.
When the GDP goes up, it means that people in the country are making more money.

Another thing that macroeconomics looks at is how many jobs there are in a country.
If there are a lot of people who don't have jobs, that can be a problem.
It's like if there weren't enough chairs in your classroom for everyone
to sit down - some people would have to stand and that wouldn't be very comfortable.
So, having enough jobs for everyone is important.

Macroeconomics also looks at how prices of things are changing. When prices go
up, it's called inflation. This can make it harder for people to buy the
things they need, like food and clothes. It's like if the price of candy
suddenly went up - you might not be able to afford to buy as much candy as you
used to.

One way that the government can try to help with these problems is by using something
called monetary policy. This means that they can change how much money is in
the economy or how much it costs to borrow money. It's like if your parents
let you have more allowance or if they charged you interest on the money you
borrowed from them.

So, that's macroeconomics in a nutshell! It's about looking at how everyone
in a country is doing with their money and jobs, and trying to make things better

That's a great question! In macroeconomics, we often use models to help us
understand how different parts of the economy are connected and how they affect
each other.

One common type of model is called the circular flow model. Imagine a big circle
with two sides - on one side, you have households (people like you and your family)
and on the other side, you have businesses (companies that make and sell things).

In the circular flow model, households provide resources like labor and land
to businesses, and businesses use those resources to produce goods and services
that households buy. In exchange, households give businesses money (in the form
of wages, rent, and payments for goods and services), which businesses use to
pay for resources and make a profit.

To draw the circular flow model, you can start by drawing a big circle and dividing
it into two halves - one for households and one for businesses. Then you can
draw arrows to show the flow of resources and money between the two sides. For
example, you might draw an arrow from households to businesses to show that households
provide resources like labor and land to businesses. You might also draw an arrow
from businesses to households to show that businesses provide goods and services
to households in exchange for money.

There are other types of models in macroeconomics, too, like supply and demand
curves and the Keynesian model. Each model has its own unique features and can
help us understand different aspects of the economy. But the basic idea is always
the same - we're trying to figure out how different parts of the economy
are connected and how they affect each other.

AHahahhahaha it is very nice explonation, but remember one thing, good economist
will never try to predict something, good economist will know his next steps
if happens 1 or 2 option

Ahahhahaa some of them are even better, they predicts 7 crisis and 6 bull markets
of 1 covid crisis, it is always interesting checking what they are talking, because
you know that their chances of predicting are something around 50/50

like the amount of money your family makes in a year, but for an entire country.

It's about looking at how everyone
in a country is doing with their money and jobs, and trying to make things better
if they're not going well.”

So yet another weird theory based on the Story of Separation.

Do you not have textbooks, assigned readings, class notes, etc, that you can
look at??

1300 pages of macroeconomics, 21 assignments and over 20 not mandatory readings,
are you talking about that? Yes I have, but I don't know how my university
thinks that I have to manage all of this

I suggest you study using your assigned books like everyone else who took that
exam. There should not be any shortcuts for those not wanting to put in the work.
If it is too much or too difficult, you might want to rethink your certification
goals.

Sometimes youngsters are too lazy to put in the work needed. If you think university
studies is "too much", wait until real life catches up with you. You
will realize university is a walk in the park (and yes, I did all the studying
pre-Internet in the 80s, and have finished university).

Buck up and start reading your books like everyone else.

Yeah I know, to be honest I am not lazy at all, I just study in one university
which is 1st in baltics and nordic, you can check Stockholm School of Economics.
I am trying to grow my lego shop, because I love lego since childhood, I really
hope that my shop will become bigger, I am trying to do my best with it and everytime
checking bricklink how much visitors and orders I have, for me it is very exciting,
I am also stock, forex and crypto trader, but now I am mostly trying to use my
trading abilities only to get money to pay for rent, university and buy more
lego for the shop. Because every order gets me really happy that my work is not
useless

In that case, I will give you some brutal honest advice. Stop selling Lego on
BrickLink now, and get a different side job. BL will not give you anywhere the
ROI that you need. It takes way too much time (time you need for your studies)
for peanuts of profit. As you apparently study economics, apply your knowledge
to your own activities and start maximizing the money you make per each hour
you spend not studying.

I can easily prove selling LEGO parts maximizes your work, 365 days guaranteed!

What do you mean? Personally I sold like 2k parts for 10 days, for approximately
13 cents per part, but my average price per piece was like 7 cents, isn't
it good?

is profitable, or I don't understand something and my profit is just bunch

it is profitable but usually only with lots of work, initial investment (largely
affects how long to get a store inventory larger sooner), and patience and even
then its not a guarantee

It's good as long you don't account anything.

Please learn microeconomics

* price of space (rental?)
* price of labour (salary), including administrative (declarations...)
* packaging, toner, paper, stickers
* accounting fees (or time)
* use of a car to post orders
* BrickLink fees
* PayPal fees
* your or your company bank fees
* insurance for your inventory
* refund/partial refunds (errors, losses...)

... there are so much costs that the hypothetical margin is just a joke

Yes, PayPal takes 3.49% + $0.49 out of every transaction, so $0.06 profit becomes
$0.43 loss

But you can't set up a future activity based on "For now it costs me
nothing."

Really, I'm astonished you're interested in economics (big scale or not)

I think if it is done wisely than it will not take a huge amount of work, like
2-3 hours a day

I beg to differ, there are some who spend more than 8 hours a day on BrickLink

It can certainly done, but it requires hard work, planning, and luck

Niek.

Mostly I am selling lego not for huge profits, but for emotions I get when someone
orders something, your shops looks kinda big, doesn't you make like 50% gross
profit on every sale?

Yeah by the 807th order those emotions start to wear off

You can most certainly run a BrickLink store in your spare time while in school
or working a full-time job

I am trying to run it in my spare time, while I was in school I learnt how to
manage my time nicely, I always dreamed about bricklink store, because it generates
profit, as well as you always have a lot of lego, I think after 807 order will
not dissapear
Bricklink store like a side hustle when you love lego I think is very good idea,
if you try to run bricklink store on full time without another full-time main
work, it is bad idea, but maybe I am wrong

Ive had jobs in the past such as a paper route, beer bottle collecting (bring
to the beer store for like .10 per bottle) and scrap metal collecting then went
to selling on ebay then on bricklink. (nervously looks at massive starting debt
that still has to be paid off )

The main thing (or one of the main things at least) as with any job its important
to see if you enjoy and like the job as then you will never work a day in your
life. I haven't "worked" a day in my life yet in that sense so if
you enjoy it and are willing to put in the time and resources it can be done!

this people just don't go on normal work, gets more salary and then spend

Ive had jobs in the past such as a paper route, beer bottle collecting (bring
to the beer store for like .10 per bottle) and scrap metal collecting then went
to selling on ebay then on bricklink. (nervously looks at massive starting debt
that still has to be paid off )

Ahahahaha everyone here has their own stories, some says that running a bricklink
store is profitable and can make around 2-3k a month, some say that it is useless
because of time you spent, I want to try it on myself to understand how it works
here

if nothing else it will at least be a good and fun learning experience

Yeah I totally agree with you, I want to check the results after like a month,
to understand how much I spent, how much I earned and how much time did I spent

The main thing (or one of the main things at least) as with any job its important
to see if you enjoy and like the job as then you will never work a day in your
life. I haven't "worked" a day in my life yet in that sense so if
you enjoy it and are willing to put in the time and resources it can be done!

Yeah, for me now running a bricklink store is something like just getting a rest
of anything else

it is fun!

Yeah I totally agree, I have one more question if a lot of people says that selling
lego is not profitable and they do it only because they love lego, why all of
this people just don't go on normal work, gets more salary and then spend
money on lego?

something about building a business with your own hands is to much fun to resist.
Also working a 9-5 is boring

Yeah, but people usually describe this business as a nightmare that you spend
a lot of work everyday and get paid like a janitor, it is not logically in my
opinion, I have my main work to do, and running lego store as a side hustle,
because I love lego

That is exactly what I do.

Some do make a living from running a BrickLink store, but it's a capital-
and labor-intensive business. You need a lot of inventory, a lot of space, and
a lot of time.

Yeah I want to do the same, earn money mostly on main work, and run bricklink

For instance if you are young like nubs select, it is okay to run just a bricklink
store, you are young you have a lot of time in future to find a main job which
will be your loved job, but if you are trying to become rich at 30 just running
a lego store without main job it is something unlogical, bricklink store in my
opinion is very interesting side hustle if you love lego, you earn some profits
of touching and doing something with lego, and get money from both: your job
and bricklink store, like 600 euros a month from bricklink store in my opinion
is highly possible, isn't it?

If you want to get rich it is better to be young. Easier to learn new skills
and more time to let your investments grow.

Just to make sure - nobody is crying that BL is low profitable. Speaking for
myself -

You started this thread asking anyone to explain how the Swan model works, because
"... sometimes university needs to much". You also mentioned you wanted
to use your BL shop to augment your income. I advised you several times that
running a small BL shop to get money in is a very bad way of spending your time.
I don't think anyone else in this thread is going to dispute that.

I will try one last time:
- For your study, you need to put time and effort in, asking for shortcuts is
lazy.
- You believe university is claiming too much time, and you think/hope
you can earn enough money with your BL shop - these two things are incompatible
doing at the same time. Both take a lot of time to achieve.

So, I believe you need to make a choice: go study and pick a more profitable
way of augmenting your income, or build your BL store to the point where it can
make money. IMHO you cannot do both at the same time. What you can do (and nobody
is disputing this) is to have a small shop on the side while studying, but there
is simply no way you can rely on its profitability to pay for your lifestyle
while at the same time doing a fulltime university study. Your shop is not large
enough to provide that.

So I am going to change my advice (assuming you continue your study): spend your
time with your books, keep your BL shop for fun (and not rely on it for income),
and look for other, more realistic, ways of augmenting your income.

Apparently your studies haven't reached the point yet where profit is not
just the difference between buy-price and sell-price. Our shop mostly sells used
parts. If I were to define my profit as just that difference, it would be over
90%. Think that sounds great? I did not mention the time it takes to get
from a bulk eBay buy to having it in the shop. Hunting for Lego to buy, cleaning
it, sorting (and discarding any non-Lego), uploading to BL and storing it away.
For our shop, this is a 60-hour-a-week job, and the profits are less than what
I would make with literally any other job (paper route, dish washing at
restaurants, you name it). You need to build a large shop for it to become profitable.

To simplify things, if you can't hire someone and pay at least minimum wage
to do what you do in your BL shop, you are not profitable.

You need to determine your priorities. If you wish to pay for and finish your
studies, stop with your BL shop, as the "money earned" divided by "time
spent" is about as bad as you can get. Find a different way to augment your
income.
