The new Satin Trans-Clear 2x4 bricks use a new mould with part number 3556.

It looks like this is a new mould for transparent bricks, and I think that we
can expect more transparent brick now LEGO is using MABS plastic and the new
mould has been made.

The mould does not have cross-supports. I guess this will look better when building
with transparent bricks, but it could be confusing in our catalog. Should we
identify this as a 3001 or 3001old (or 3001-something-new), and why?

Are you talking about this? I've always wondered what color they are. I've
had them for a while.

No, those are "milky white with glitter" Allianz Arena bricks. Made for
a model in LEGOLAND in Germany.

The new brick was released this week.

Interestingly enough, your brick does also not fit the standard mould designations.
It has a cross-support, but thick walls like 3001old

Any reason why "milky white with glitter" is not on the BL color chart?

Probably just something that was forgotten. Prior to last year, no one-off colors
had their own BL counterparts. This glitter color was also used here:

Part No: 2456 Name: Brick 2 x 6
*
2456 Brick 2 x 6
Parts: Brick {Milky White}

The official name for these Allianz Arena bricks is still unknown. However, LEGO
did use a “Nature with Glitter” for this part:

Part No: 31225 Name: Duplo Spider Web 8 x 8
*
31225 Duplo Spider Web 8 x 8
Parts: DUPLO {Glitter Trans-Clear}

I may be wrong, but it was a specific production/color for this (wunderbach!)
building/part.

In short, it may not be considered as "Official Color" by Catalog People.
I wouldn't, it'd be me.

Here is the 3001 in Satin Trans-Clear (a Q-element from before this new Classic
set):

I didn't take a picture of the bottom, but you can see the thin walls and
strakes and the cross support.

Personally, I'd love to see the new production bricks listed under 3001old
(or perhaps a new entry for 3556, to avoid the "old" tag?). It will be
very difficult to find and properly sell the Q-element 3001 version otherwise.

Well, 2x2 bricks in trans-colours are 3003 even though they don’t have cross
supports….

What do you think about the sellers who are listing them as 3003old?
Are they incorrect, or maybe unaware of an unwritten catalog guideline/rule?

Well, all I know is that:

1. It’s not an “unwritten catalogue guideline / rule,” it’s how it is: the trans-colours
(except Trans-Clear) are not Known, they are not in any inventory for 3003old.

It’s easy to see and that would make these sellers incorrect.  Or do they think
that all the new sets come with bricks in new trans-colours with cross-supports
but they alone somehow found special ones without cross-suppors?
(And if they found them in sets, they didn’t check the inventories, or didn’t
ask nor tell anybody?)

2. I don’t buy from these sellers… not because I consider them wrong but because
I don’t look at them, because I look at the Known Colours in the catalogue entries
to put parts in my Wanted Lists and these sellers therefore don’t appear in my
searches.
I don’t think I’m alone in that case.

One may also take into account that Studio (or rather, LDraw) (and LDD) don’t
differentiate the -old versions, so people making WLs from Studio (or LDD) designs
will be looking for 300#, not 300#old.

That means these sellers are also missing on buyers

I was lucky enough to buy here the older version of this brick
I hope the seller doesn't have now thoughts of regrets
Also, I think that the new production brick should be listed as 3001old

Leave it under 3001, the 3001old is specifically for old bricks, not new molds
that look like old bricks.
It is a new brick.

But if a seller would list it under the old, no problem.

My 2 cents,
Maxx

P.s. I still want one with cross supports

I think that the catalog admin should create a new entry for 3556, like they
did with part 3001f1 for example

I agree. The difference is significant to most collectors — if someone currently
wants to sell the old opal brick, they would have to post under 3001special for
it to get noticed, which is... a little sloppy. I'm in favor of a new 3556
entry (future-proofing for all transparent bricks that come out in the near future
as well, which seems likely).

I do not disagree, but we already post bricks under 3001 with different molds.
Just add a description to it stating thick walls, mold number…., with cross supports
etc.

  I'm in favor of a new 3556
entry (future-proofing for all transparent bricks that come out in the near future
as well, which seems likely).

If that happens, I agree, but for simplicity…..

If more and more 3556 bricks appear, I agree.

For now to keep things simple, leave these bricks under 3001.
There can be an extra line saying new mold number…
