Hello brick connoisseurs,

I heard through the grapevine (aka youtube) that this website is the best for
anything related to Lego.

I am planning to list for sale a very rare set (was told a 100 made) on
here potentially and was wondering if this community can guide me on what of
sort of price I should list it at, let's say if you had in your possession.

Context:

Sky is a one of the largest telecommunications provider in the UK and was running
an advertising campaign in 2017 alongside the Lego Batman movie for its broadband
services (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG9XFYU4oGM).
A friend of mine was working for them in a callcentre and was gifted the set
while working there a while back and decided to simply give it to me since they
had no longer any interest in it anymore.

I was not able to find any information about the set anywhere. Not listed here
nor on brickmaster.com.

Thank you in advance!

I am always a bot cautious regarding calling things rare.

In this case I have my doubts, not specially about ‘100 made’ but more in other
ways.
Looking at the white bricks of the van they are quite discolored and seems to
be of quite an earlier date than the minifigs.
Also the way they look to be side by side looks like older Lego too, the gap
between them is quite large. But, of course, I might be wrong in seeing the yellowed
white and it can occur in newer sunbathed Lego.

So I think someone designed it for this particular event, most likely a non Lego
designer, not someone with a vivid imagination, so no real Lego product in design.

I cannot say anything about desirability, that is up to the specific collectors.

Thank you very much.

Your reasoning is definitely sound.

It does look a bit home made, especially the inclusion of flesh coloured minifigures
for civilian people. At that time, flesh colours were licensed only characters.
They even mixed up yellow and flesh tones in The Lego Movie so to have a set
like this where civilians are not yellow would be odd.

However, if there was a box and instructions then it would be more believable
that it was something created in quantity rather than a one off build.

No box no instructions. Is there specific details I can look on the minifigs
or parts to determine if it was licensed or not?

Thank you in advance!

I have had the opportunity to work with a large company that did something similar.
They wanted to create a set of their Logo out of Lego bricks. A team at corporate
designed the set, sourced the bricks from Lego (my suggestion), sourced the instructions
and boxes from a different company and then handed them out to company associates
at a bi-yearly meeting. My husband received one of these sets at that meeting
and while it is made with Lego and has a box and instructions, I don't believe
it would be considered a Lego sanctioned set. As such, it would not be allowed
to be sold on Bricklink, my conjecture.

It is my opinion that the Telecommunications company SKY probably did something
similar.

I found a Reddit post regarding this set:

https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/jnwfey/i_won_this_limited_edition_only_100_made_at_work/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

And one of the comments suggests it was licensed.

And this article: https://minifigpriceguide.com/wordpress/sky-broadband-tech-team-in-minifigure-form-for-the-batman-movie/

with a comment from a person suggesting there is only 3 sets.

Would it be worth contacting Lego directly to enquire?

If you mean the headline of the article ‘SKY BROADBAND TECH TEAM IN MINIFIGURE
FORM FOR THE BATMAN MOVIE’ I didn’t read it. Also not in the other text. I didn’t
saw the video.
It is just saying, and that is my opinion, they made a scene in minifig form
for the Batman Movie. This can mean you are right, it also can mean they made
something up for themselves with a connection of Sky Broadband and the Batman
Movie, in the latter case non licensed scene but real Lego.

Sky did run an advert (or maybe multiple, I cannot remember) a few years ago,
featuring Batman and Sky minifigures. Presumably with the permission of LEGO.

However, I agree that this is not a real LEGO set (as in made by LEGO), but presumably
one put together for Sky with custom prints and stickers.

It might be of interest to some people with a connection to Sky, but probably
not that many AFOLs.

Fair enough. So then my question how would I be able to determine if it is or
not a set made by Lego? One of the comments in the Reddit post suggests it is
officially licensed by Lego. Is there something I can look on the figurines or
the parts that could help? Would it be worth contacting Lego?

Fair enough. So then my question how would I be able to determine if it is or
not a set made by Lego?

It is highly unlikely to be. It is a modern item. So if it was made by LEGO,
there would be some sort of packaging with the LEGO logos and a LEGO copyright
notice. There would be some trace of that somewhere on the internet.

One of the comments in the Reddit post suggests it is
officially licensed by Lego.

I wouldn't trust people on reddit without any evidence.

Is there something I can look on the figurines or
the parts that could help?

Not really, as the parts are likely to originally be genuine LEGO but then printed
by a customiser to add the Sky logo.

Would it be worth contacting Lego?

I doubt it, you'd get through to a customer service rep who would say it
is cool but that they don't know anything about it.

It may be like this. A set designed by a Lego Certified Professional. But it's
not a Lego released set so it's not in the catalog.

If it was a LCP set then I'd imagine there would be a picture of the box
somewhere on the internet, or some other record rather than someone on reddit
saying it is 1/100 and someone else 1/3. They all seem to be in the same display
case, so presumably they were pre-built and put in the case rather than distributed
like a normal set or LCP set in a box.

I certainly agree with you. It was more to educate the original poster that just
because something looks Lego, it may not be.

I have not thrown the towel.

I contacted Lego U.K. customer service via the live chat option and got through
a very helpful agent who created a case for me.

Had to wait 2 weeks but then got a reply back and I have attached screenshots
of the email thread :o

I have not thrown the towel.

I contacted Lego U.K. customer service via the live chat option and got through
a very helpful agent who created a case for me.

Had to wait 2 weeks but then got a reply back and I have attached screenshots
of the email thread :o
