Beautiful job by user ToastBubbles!
It isn't often that a completely new category gets added to the parts tree!

Weren't these meant to be given away free to select schools and institutions
so they went to the people that actually need them. If they are ending up on
the secondary market for collectors of LEGO, it seems like they have failed.
Or have they started selling them as kits now?

Here it is ...
https://legobraillebricks.com/about
The LEGO® Braille Bricks will be offered to select institutions, schools and
services catering to the education of blind and visually impaired children. Toolkits
will only be available to professionals teaching braille associated with or operating
such schools, institutions, education centers, etc.
The project is entirely non-for-profit for all parties involved. Distribution
will be handled through participating partner networks. Please refer to the official
partner list in the countries where we launch.
It seems wrong to me that LEGO is allowing them to be sold on bricklink. If they
are in the catalogue and can be sold, then it is not exactly non-profit.

It's been a couple of years - they were liable to end up outside the system
eventually, as old inventory is sold off or sent for recycling. It happens in
all industries.
It's probably fine as long as we don't start seeing a bunch of parts
listed as New

It is open to interpretation, but I don't think LEGO can claim that these
are only for non-profit use if they themselves profit from the secondary market
sale of them. If collectors pay high prices, it also gives the incentive to steal
them from the kids/institutes that use them.
If LEGO want them to be sold as collectables, maybe they should sell packs of
them. Allowing their sale here given they are meant to be for non-profit organisations
just seems wrong to me.

If that is right and these are regular retail products then it is no longer an
issue. I thought they made a big thing when these were first released about these
being from the LEGO Foundation and that they could not sell them.
