Please could anyone help me regarding extortionate shipping when someone purchases
one of my instruction manuals.

I have had a few orders now where bricklink only gives the option for a medium
parcel when it's clearly only a manual so therefore will fit in a large envelope.
It's defaulting to £5 for shipping when it should be more like £1-£2.

Is it something I have set up wrong on my store settings ? Or is this a well
known issue.

Many thanks.

do you have a size restriction on the shipping method?
or do you have weight bands?

Take a look at the dimensions of the manuals.
Most have the dimensions of the original set box and those are way larger then
the instructions

Yes, it's unfortunate that they were all originally entered with the wrong
measurements. In hindsight, it would have been better to leave the missing measurements
blank so sellers would have more incentive to submit the correct data.

Sellers, if you see instruction packing dimensions with a height of 1 cm, it's
a clue that these were the default data. Please submit the corrections by using
the Add or Change tab, Change Item: Set which is where the instructions
dimensions are hiding.

I set most of my instructions for "manual shipping". Saves alot of hassle
and the buyer can always ask for a quote .

Yep, this.

I sell hundreds of instructions a year, and the best way around this issue is
to set all the bigger than medium sized books to manual invoice. IME

I had this problem when I first set up instant checkout. You can set them to
manual invoice but I felt it defeated the object of instant checkout. I went
through all mine and changed the dimensions as most are set to the box dimensions.
Make sure the Z dimensions are correct as I changed all my Z dimensions at 1cm
for speed but if someone brought numerous booklets it still defaulted to a parcel.
I think it added them up as a thickness so for example 4 books at 1cm thick 4cm
went over the 2.5 cm large letter rate. I changed them again to actual thickness.
I could be wrong on this theory but it worked for me. All mine now go through
correctly. Sharon.

...... Also take a look at your weight bands on your shipping as you have not
allowed for packing materials. A buyer can place 100g of items in their basket
at £1.05 but it will go over to the next band once you have packed it. You will
then loose money on the postage.
