| Just curious here. Has Bricklink always collected sales tax on shipping fees?
I thought only the actual sale was taxable. PLMK if I'm missing something.

It varies state-by-state. Some do and some don't. Some states have conditions
to the application of sales tax as applied to shipping charges.

What sellers ARE charged for by Paypal are the Paypal fees that go along with
any sales tax collected.
This is an additional charge to sellers that should account for and be considered
an expense that sellers must pay.
Just like sellers have _Always_ paid Paypal fees on postage, now sellers pay
the Paypal fee on any sales tax or VAT collected by BrickLink.
It is what it is -- another cost of doing business.
I try not to let it annoy me, but it does make me miss the days when buyers paid
with cash, checks, money orders, and Western Union transfers, and band transfers
that didn't cost sellers anything.

Wonder when, why and where this turned into "let's make money over things
that used to be free!"..... and people actually agreed with this.
Some taxes are genuine (providing services the collective needs and cannot be
created indivually like safety, healthcare, public transport), others are cashcows
and bear very little legal basis. But few dare to sue the government, because
you can't win.....
Mobilization for the Environment did though in my home country, and won.
Now several legislation processes are put on hold because of 'bad government';
ruled by multiple courts. Impressive. Are the times a-changing?

I think it has less to do with taxes and more to do with fees. PayPal can get
away with their shenanigans because so many online sellers, both on BrickLink
and elsewhere, rely on them. Stripe is not much better. But there are other options.
