We just came accross a strange colored part. It's not opaque, nor is it trans-black,
it's more of a milky trans-black but such a color doesn't appear to exist.

Anyone know what color this should be? The copyright year on it is 2008 if that
helps any...

On the photo I put a dark bluish gray, light bluish gray and black part around
it to help gauge the color.

Considering the piece wasn’t even released till a year after that, I wonder if
it was some sort of test brick? Where did you come across this piece?

It's pretty standard for the copyright to be the year before the part first
appears in a set; that would be when the design was originally made. The only
exceptions I know of are 52261, 53069, and 53070, all of which were made for
2004 special edition sets, with their element IDs also being among ones for 2005
sets.

Hmm, neat, I would assume test brick. I may not be correct, but that's my
guess!

Looks like a part that did not get enough color.

Nice find!

Come to think of it, I have a red, green, and yellow brick all with less color.

TLG buys ABS granulate from subcontractors in a variety of standard colors -
but not all in their inventory. Some colors are produced by mixing different
colors of granulate. It sometimes appears that the mixing has not been satisfactory.
Looks like this item is a result of that.

of color.

I had the same thing happen yesterday parting out 42134, only one piece like
this out of the 20 sets parted out.
