| Hi all
I am a new seller and am in the process of setting up my store before opening
it. I had a question regarding how the size of used sets are calculated for shipping
purposes. Most of the sets I am planning to sell will be without a box, and will
just include the bricks and the instructions.
Does anyone know if the the size of a set that Bricklink uses when calculating
shipping for instant checkout is that of a sealed set, or if there is a volume
amount for just the bricks that are included in a set that can be used instead?
As an example, say that I am trying to sell a used set of 75320-1 Snowtrooper
Battle Pack. The dimensions of a sealed box of the set are 7.52" x 5.55" x 1.81".
A USPS PriorityMail Small Flat-Rate box has internal dimensions of 8.62" x 5.37"
x 1.62". A sealed set of 75320-1 would be unable to fit inside the USPS small
flat-rate box, but if I were to take the bricks out of the LEGO box and put the
bricks directly into the USPS box they would most likely fit just fine, and have
room for the instruction booklet.
If I were trying to use instant checkout, would the buyer be quoted as having
to pay for shipping for the dimensions of a sealed set, and consequently have
to pay for a larger shipping box, or would the instant checkout be able to take
into account that the set does not have a box and give a quote just for the volume
that the bricks take up?
If there is not a way to change this, will my only option be to set up all orders
as requiring the buyer to request an individualized quote for each order?
I might not have explained this in the best way, but any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks,
Alizarin

| As far as I know it’s only for the dimensions of a sealed set but each item can
have items dimensions changed individually but it might be best for selling sets
to just do manual invoicing

Okay, thanks for the feedback.
That is what I thought, but I just wanted to check with people that have much
more experience than I do. It is good to know that I can change the dimensions
for individual sets, but with the number of sets I will be dealing with I don't
think it will as useful as it would be with just a few sets.
Thanks again for the reply, especially since it was so quick.
Have a good day,
Alizarin

| I do sell used sets as well without boxes. I put them in my inventory based on
weight, not dimensions. As you already mentioned, dimensions of sets are based
on original boxes. To make instant checkout more reliable, I make everything
weight based.
I send in Germany everything with DHL, and all Boxes above 2kg (most of my sets
has 4-8kg ready packed - dont under estimate packing weight have a big size
limit what i never reached without original set box.
Maybe helps you a little.
Kind regards and success with your shop !!

Thanks for the advice Tom!
I might not start out shipping with this method, but I will look into it once
I have more experience. Thanks for the warning about underestimating shipping
weight as well.
Thanks again,
Alizarin
