If I understand that correctly, the figures in the Friends line, will begin having
more variety, and will more correctly reflect the diverse forms that humans come
in. It would seem that those with some disabilities will also be represented.

How long until someone claims they have a rare short shot?
It is great they are doing more for diversity, but where are the figures for
larger kids to identify with? It's OK to be different but not fat?

Well, minifigs are morbidly obese: their girth is more than their height (6 studs
vs. 4⅔ bricks).

The past 50 years of failed lines shows that LEGO never figured out how to market
to girls, and Friends just reinforces that.
I think the problem boils down to treating girls as an other, instead of including
them as part of the LEGO world. Here are two points of contention.
1.) Dolls - Using dolls instead of minifigures shows girls that they are different
and noninterchangeable with the rest of the world. The dolls are also image focused.
(thin waist, nice hair, fashion centric)
2.) Complexity - Has anyone noticed that most LEGO Friends sets seem really simple
to build? You could infer that LEGO thinks that girls are incapable of construction
to the same extent that boys are.
One of my favorite themes is Paradisa. The sets used pink boxes, had female characters
and pastel colors, but fit in with the rest of the LEGO world.

No. I think they are similar complexity for similar target age sets.
