"I charge a handling fee of DKK 5.50 + 6% of the total order price"

That's just 0K level of uncool

I doubt that seller would accept a 6% fee added to whatever he/she buys at the
local supermarket (it's close to actual inflation but lets not talk about
that!)

WHY do BL not have a template for terms?

Cut the silly fees and the revenue will go UP for BL!

I found the parts (locally as well) for a few percent more in another tiny BL
shop

It was only an order worth a few euros but looking through that shop's parts
AND terms, I went ahead and bought a ton of parts

Why? No animal feces terms and no trying to scam the spirit of BL

You may laugh, but the Illinois state sales tax rate is 6.25%…

Well Danish prices include a VAT of 25%.  And a buyer in Illinois will pay the
same 6.25% whomever they buy from.

I think that’s 1974’s point: put whatever you want, it’ll pass, as long as it’s
included and not added afterward.

TAX or VAT is handled differently in Europe. It is not added to the shopping
at checkout. It is included in the price and not even mentioned on the price
labels. So what the OP meant is that the seller probably wouldnt accept buying
groceries and then has to pay an extra 6% at checkout.

But if you use the fees stated in the OP for example. If I purchase a 200 euro
lego set from that seller, it adds 5.5 euro and an additional 12 euro for handling.
Probably on top of that PayPal fees passed on to the buyer. So I end up paying
227 euro for a set that is offered for 200. Fees do me head in, I hate it, just
list the final price and dont charge anything additional.

What I really hate is the seller splitting out every fee and by the time you
get to pay the set has gone up 20% in fees.

Not really, as 5.5 DKK is only about 75 euro cents.

Yes I know, I just used the OP as an example of sellers adding fees. My whole
example is in euros. And if it were 75 cent it still would cost around 222 euro
instead of 200 once all fees are added.

And BL should stop sellers adding paypal fees to the total amount as it is against
PP TOS I believe.

No, it mainly depends the Country laws.

In France it's forbidden, but even if - of course - many sellers here apply
those fees

In some Countries (Germany IIRC) it's perfectly legal and even encouraged.

NL.  And limited to the exact amount (can’t charge more), as per EU directive.

And I wouldn’t say it’s ‘encouraged’ or by who?  Clearly, not by PayPal
(PP has (illegal) terms against making them look bad.)

Goverment politics: for the buyer to have a choice and be able to save while
picking a cheaper / adequate payment mode.

What's legal now, and it's relatively recent, is to propose a rebate
on a specific payment method.

Typically, say 3% off if paid by SEPA/IBAN.

We thought about implement it in our Shipping Methods.

But this is complicated on BrickLink: as BrickLink will always propose by default
the cheapest price, people will click fast and select SEPA (cheaper), and then
will write me saying "I didn't mean this, I wish PayPal"

Then they write back: "How come is it more expensive now???"

2009 for the current article but I think it was there before in another article/form
(2001 LCEN and all that).

(And why don’t they use Git for laws?!)

Yeah, you were here very early, you know if that’s true better that I can… but
the fee system on BL really looks like it was patched as needed (“eh, I need
a second fee line for XXX”, “okay, here you are,” “eh, why not percentage fee
for YYY or just because why not,” “no problemo”).
And the same with payment methods and most of the rest.
Big ball of mud https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_ball_of_mud
Not a problem when everything is mostly manual… and then business grows and then
legislators come playing.

I had this discount in place for some time, but later I came to the realisation
that if I offer 3% discount for IBAN payment is exactly the same money your receive
as a PayPal transaction inside EU (2.9% + 0.35€) and most people still used PayPal
to pay as on small orders the difference is minimum and people feel more confortable
with PP.

You may laugh but we don't have silly things like that in Denmark (state

Advertised price is final price (cars and a few other things not included. LEGO
is definitely not among that)

So, if that particular seller was to open a LEGO parts shop in Denmark, NO WAY
that "plus six percent" would be allowed

I think that is mostly the case here in the U.S. for things that have a national
tax (e.g. gasoline and cigarettes), but State and municipal sales taxes aren't
typically included in the advertised price (there are exceptions, a business
could choose to do that). But the sales taxes are calculated at checkout on BL,
which isn't always the case for shipping and handling fees.

There's even worse - if you don't count the minimum 30€ order and 0.10$
per lot after some average.

The currecy conversion. If the seller accepts only PLN or KZX, then it'll
cost you from 5 to even more percents to make this conversion on PayPal.

And this is on the WHOLE, meaning 5% on the order, the shipping, extra fees,
taxes

Yep that's the worst. I encourage everyone to use Wise or Revolut to save

Instead of an 8DKR order this turned into a 260DKR order from another small danish
shop

I really wish BL would end the wild west and just state NO FEES in the signup
terms

It would really benefit everyone

Cheers,

What would "no fees" mean legally? A fee is a charge for a service. So no fees
means no postage fees allowed. No packaging fees allowed. Those would need to
be accounted for in item prices and through order minimums. That is not necessarily
be good for buyers.

Or if you mean no handling fees allowed, then any extra costs would be lumped
into postage and/or packaging costs.

Instead of banning fees, I'd prefer all fees - shipping, handling, packaging
- be entered into an automatic cart calculation. Then a running total can be
displayed as soon as any item is added to a cart. This has worked on brickowl
for years.
