We’re pleased to announce the third round of crowdfunding for the BrickLink Designer Program will open May 17th at 10:00am Pacific / 7:00pm CET / 6:00pm UTC. We invite LEGO fans to pre-order their favorites among nine fan projects on the BrickLink Designer Program page.
The first five projects to reach the goal of 3,000 pre-orders will be produced as a limited edition set. Up to 10,000 of each will be produced based on pre-orders received from registered BrickLink members. Round 3 crowdfunding will close at 10:00am Pacific on June 21.
Here are the candidates for the third and final round of crowdfunding, along with their prices:
Mountain View Observatory by ThomasW_BL for $319.99
Space Troopers by nickroyer for $199.99

Round 1 of crowdfunding was held during the summer of 2021 and Round 2 in fall 2021. This third and final round of crowdfunding concludes the BrickLink Designer Program invitational where up to 15 out of 26 projects will ultimately be realized across the three rounds.
Designer Program sets will feature digital building instructions provided by the LEGO Building Instructions mobile app. Digital instructions help us fulfill our Planet Promise by using less paper and saving on shipping weight, which in turn reduces emissions while delivering your set to you. The app lets you zoom, rotate, and view your model in 3D and ghost view mode to see how far you’ve come and what part you’re in the process of building. The LEGO Building Instructions app is great at keeping track of complex builds and makes it easy to save your building steps online so you can recycle instruction books.
PDF building instructions will also be made publicly available when sets begin shipping.
Sincerely,
The BrickLink Designer Program Team

Have you looked a the piece count for these sets vs the 1st round?
1st round:
Smallest set - 540 pieces
Largest set - 1948 pieces
3rd round:
Smallest set - 1377 pieces
Largest set - 4062 pieces
That's a pretty big difference right there alone to justify a price gap.

I guess it makes sense to have the larger sets all competing against each other?
That way a set wouldn't miss the goal only because of the $ tag. Just a thought...

Well, maybe having a wider range of prices may even help have more orders overall.
I don’t know, I’m not in LEGO marketing, I’m only a buyer
But I tend to think it’s not intentional. It’s just that bigger sets take longer
to prepare and most ended in the last round.
And, of course, we will never know. BL & LEGO won’t ever tell us… or we’ll never
be able to tell if it’s the truth (“we purposefully did it by accident!”).

I don't think they are really competing against each other as you can buy
more than one of the projects.
I think the price points will make people hesitant to back as many projects as
earlier rounds because if they all get funded that's a lot of cash to dole
out all at once. So where someone may have backed 3 or 4 projects last round
(expecting maybe 2 or 3 to get funded), they may only back 1 or 2 this round.
I'm just guessing it will take more unique buyers to fund 5 projects. There
may be enough demand for that, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 5 aren't
fully funded.

| Looking forward to the third episode!
Some great sets again.
Hopefully we have a more fair and equal chance to purchase at least ONE set as
in the former rounds almost all sets were harvested by resellers.
Or the available sets per country were so limited there was no chance of obtaining
one.
The Fishing Boat in round 2 was a true gem. Never got one because after 15 seconds
they were 'sold out'.
Man what a disaster that was.
These sets are for sale now at 300-500 USD.
Started to collect the parts and have one these days but would have loved the
original set.

Castle in the Forest was the only one that went immediately; sold out within
15 minutes, but many people were unable to even access check out due to the flood
of orders.
Fishing Boat was available a while, then made available again a second time when
funding was reopened due to demand.

There’s regional limits too. So, even when there wasn’t yet 5k (first sub-round)
or 10k (second sub-round) pre-orders, some people couldn’t make theirs.
I think Fishing Boat was quickly in this case in EU.

It was relatively very quick but iirc there was Europe stock (not just EU! )
for a couple of hours at least - I'm sure I didn't order mine immediately,
unlike the castle, as I couldn't decide if I wanted it enough.

I'm fairly certain it was only divided into three regions - North America/Europe/APAC.
I was quite curious about it during the first round and spent a lot more time

They had previously announced that they would be three rounds for this designer

on how this went and the fact that the previous one was in 2019

Yes, “final” does not mean “last ever,” it just means “last round for this designer
program.”
They selected 32 projects (at first) and, with this final round, all the projects
will have been presented (or dropped).
There may be other DP and the rules may change (which designs? how many? how
many rounds? limits (3k/5k/10k)? etc.).
Hey, we only got 2 letters so far, A(FOL)DP & B(L)DP, there’s lots
of letters to use yet

Indeed, like when England won the World Cup Final in 1966. I believe some other
minor countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Argentina might
have won the Final since then.

program.”

Indeed, like when England won the World Cup Final in 1966. I believe some other
minor countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Argentina might
have won the Final since then.

That's why we don't care too much about the World Cup ... we already
got one!
Plus we know we'll never get another.

| So, where do you pre-order?! On the Bricklink website? On LEGO.com? With all
the FAQ's scanned, I still cannot find where to pre-order them...

And by right here, the BL Designer page.
https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/introducing.page
It will be updated when the sets go live for you place your pre-order. It will
redirect you to the Lego.com site to place the actual order for payment collection
information and such. One thing to note that if you select the Paypal option
during the pre-order, you will be "charged" and then refunded after 30 days when
the hold drops so keep this in mind. Final charges won't actually post until
the set(s) ship.

is not yet processed in the order. Hope it goes through as it was my first choice

| And 21 min after the launch, the 5 winners are already known.
And the price doesn’t seem to have counted much.
Congrats to the winners
And to the buyers

Wow, I stepped away for a moment and missed the whole thing. Crazy! There were
so many good designs here. I guess I will be choosing from one of the winners.
