I noticed hol243 (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?M=hol243&name=Forestman&category=%5BLEGO%20Brand%5D%5BLEGO%20Brand%20Store%5D%5BBuild-A-Minifigure%5D#T=S&O={%22ss%22:%22NL%22,%22iconly%22:0})
is marked for deletion because it is beleived to be a random minifig.

The minifig was however still for sale in this configuration at the LEGO-store
in Utrecht (NLD). And there were plenty of them, suggesting it was not a random
fig at all.

Not exactly on topic here, but when do marked for deletion items actually get
deleted? I thought it was once no more items were available for sale, but that's
the case with this minifigure and it still exists.

The issue is if it exists in someone's stockroom or a store that is closed,
it can't be deleted.

Actually, the issue is that the site has not allowed us to actually delete items
from the catalog in more than three years. We would if we could.

Well, that's a slight problem...

Never. They only get marked.

Then the mark is a lie. It should be "restricted from being sold" or something
of that nature.

If I remember well, it's not working like this.

At least when Dan developped it, it staid marked for deletion UNTIL there is
no more any lot of it in BrickLink: it's then actually deleted.

But that was years ago...

There’s no contradiction between the two:
— first they are marked,
— then they are removed from the catalogue (“deleted”).

But, IIRC from messages from Russell, the way it works is that items are not
removed from the DB, they are merged with a special “deleted” item.
And the merging causes problems.  So it’s not done anymore.  So it’s just step
1 now.

It has to be linked to something for 6 months (existing orders).

Ah I see the problem, it also has to be linked to problematic orders (NPB, NSS...)
which can last almost indefinitely...

As it's anyway a minor problem, for now it stays in a sort of Catalog Coma

Why would something be approved to be added to the catalog only then to be marked
for deletion?
