| Dear BrickLink members,
The LEGO Group released the following statement regarding the war in Ukraine.
Our thoughts are with all the children and families suffering as a result of
the war in Ukraine.
Our priority is the safety of all our colleagues. We are in contact with our
Ukrainian team and are providing ongoing support to ensure their safety. We are
also working to support other colleagues around the world impacted by the escalating
crisis including our team in Russia.
We have paused shipments of products to Russia given the extensive disruption
to the operating environment.
We care deeply about the lasting impact on children and together with the LEGO
Foundation and Ole Kirk’s Fond, we will donate DKK 110 million (approx. USD 16.5
million) to emergency relief efforts, with a focus on providing support for children
and families. The donation will be made to existing partners, including the United
Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Save the Children, and the Danish Red Cross.
This is a volatile and constantly evolving situation which we are monitoring
closely.
What does this mean for BrickLink?
The global payment platforms we use on BrickLink are currently not available
in Russia and deliveries to and from the country are severely disrupted. Given
this, buying and selling activities in Russia will be temporarily deactivated.
Members impacted by this will be informed individually.
We are grateful for everyone in our community and never imagined we would face
a situation such as this or witness the heartbreak and devastation we’re seeing
in Ukraine.
Please continue to adhere to our community guidelines and show each other respect
and support.
Thank you for your understanding.

does this mean we will be still able to log in and work with my inventory (export,
import, edit) in deactivated mode?

Yes. Apart from the block at check out, your store and account privileges will
remain unchanged.
|
Please explain in more detail.
1. Will buyers from Russia be able to buy domestically?
2. Will buyers from Russia be able to buy outside the country?
3. Will buyers outside the country be able to buy in Russia if the payment system
and delivery work.

Excellent news. And good on LEGO for thinking about all the children and families
involved in this nightmare. The refugees need a lot of help and global support
right now. For anyone reading this, if you have the means, please consider donating
to help house and feed all of the displaced Ukrainian families that have had
to flee their homes.

The Donation is an extra; but it'll be appreciated where this stupid destruction
needs to be rebuilt.
Those News are much appreciated here.

If you would like to change the country your store is associated with, you will
need to change the main address on your account first:

Then, you would need to change your store address, which is found on your store
management page:

After changing countries, you would need to go through the New Seller Verification
process again. This would require proof of address in the new country.

Ok, Russell. Thx.
We work hard last month and open Limited Liability Partnership in Kazakhstan.
This gave us a chance to continue working with our foreign customers. Now we
will move the Bricklink Store to this country. There are all the necessary documents
and an address to confirm the existence in this country.
Admin_Russell, I and all guys from Favorite Cubes kindly ask you to make the
address change confirmation fast, as we cannot wait 1-2 weeks.

This seems like a major change for your shop, are you moving all stock to the

| I came across a store a few weeks ago, that was not in Russia, however indicated
in their terms that all of their shipping was routed through a parent company
in Russia, and to expect the order to take several weeks to arrive. I don't
remember, for certain, what country the store was in, but I think it was in Kazakhstan.
I choose not to order due to known shipping issues out of Russia and deleted
the cart.
Unless you are actually shipping out of Kazakhstan, without routing through Russia,
all of the same shipping issues, as exist with Russia, are likely to impact the
order.

Well, what do you expect them to do considering current events? It's not
exactly easy (or possible in some cases) to exchange money and items with Russia.
And it seems like Russian sellers have no way to pay their fees currently, so
that adds a problem too.

Russians could sell to other Russians without postage or payment problems, and
they have continued to be allowed to do so all this time. It seems it is the
not being able to pay the fees issue that caused the action here.

| I know sellers, who have friend outside our contry, and that friend can help
with paying that fee. Most of seller will find the way to pay fee... So those
who can't (or don't want to find a way) - can be deactivated. That will
be better decision.
And just blocking all russian profiles is not only limiting sellers, but also
limiting byuers - kids and AFOLS/thier parents who may play LEGO as their only
way to hide from problems.
Artist can go mad if he will be limited to buy paints and brushes

If the truth be told Bricklink/Lego are already being somewhat diplomatic about
their decision making for obvious reasons as they are an inclusive non political
organization.
However a lot of other organizations are being a lot more blunt as to why they
are imposing restrictions and so if you read between the lines it’s pretty clear
that many of these worldwide restrictions are intended so as to restrict funding
to your governments war effort rather than to intentionally hurt the Russian
people. Nobody wants to see the Russian people suffer yet only the Russian people
can decide whether they are willing to accept the path your government is taking
you down. No Mcdonalds might be easy to live without, No Bricklink less so, However
No livelihood/poverty well that might be intolerable for anyone and so isn’t
that the whole point?
i.e The realization that you deserve better from your own Government? A government
that truly thinks about its people rather than one mans dream!
Ukrainians have already lost everything and so are already having to fight for
what they want and at some point the Russian people may start to feel the same
way?

Well said Tanja.
Some sellers will be hurt, however it was the only humane decision Lego and Bricklink
could make. And the donation, generous. I respect Lego and Bricklink and Tanja
even more for making the donation and taking the hard steps that are necessary.
The stores in Russia will suffer, but the bigger picture, including the financial
means to exchange funds from stores, is much more important. Perhaps there is
a way to let Russian stores sell to buyers within Russia.
Anyway Tanja, it is commendable and refreshing to see Lego and Bricklink take
a stand.

We explored a range of options, including whether it was possible to keep stores
open, but decided the best approach for now, given that global payment platforms
are unavailable, was to temporarily deactivate stores.

| Do you think we like this whole situation in the world?! We are decent people
who understand everything, we are trying to get out of this difficult situation.
We are trying to find alternative solutions! We are generally against everything
that is happening in our country! I didn't think I'd get this kind of
news from Bricklink! I have always been for Bricklink and believed that it was
an independent platform!
In general, this is not a reason to turn off Bricklink in Russia due to payment
systems. It's not the Lego fans' fault!
If you close Bricklink, Favorite Cubes will find a way out and we will continue
to trade on or off Bricklink. But a huge number of Lego fans will not do this,
you will simply lose them! Silly! This is Bricklink's stupidest decision
ever! I do not respect this decision!
You will change the attitude of good people who are fans of Bricklink and Lego!
There are many good people in Russia in the real sense! You just don't know
anything! I don't want you to end up in such a mess.

The issue here is can you pay your fees? Yes, you can keep selling to other Russian
buyers (at least while you have stock, as LEGO have halted shipments to your
country) and they can pay using a domestic payment method. But can you pay for
using the service? With all regulated international financial systems blocking
money moving in and out of Ryssia, you cannot. It may seem stupid, but is it
fair on other sellers if they have to pay fees whereas Russians can build up
large debts without paying.

A side comment, over the past few years, without accepting non-US payments, buyers
in other countries (notably HK and China) seemingly have found ways to fund payments
(via US based PayPal accounts) for packages being sent to freight forwarders.
With the various closures of payment exchanges and package movement, I would
not be in the least surprised if side businesses begin to appear, purely facilitating
payment clearance and package reshipment. Obviously, this time around, they would
be contravening national policies, so they would have a high risk of legal action.
The black market always seems to find a way (e,g, DPRK).

It is not independent. It is an American company owned by a large multinational
company based in Denmark. There have been policy changes to align it with LEGO
since LEGO bought it. Unlike McD and similar companies that run as franchises
in Russia, there is no Russian subsidiary that you can deal with that will keep
operating. You cannot use the service because you cannot pay to use the service
due to financial sanctions imposed by most international companies and banks.

Will items from Russian stores continue to remain visible when looking at the
catalog? That would seem a tad strange, as there is currently no way for buyers
to purchase those items. It's almost like those items don't exist at

Yes, unless the store is closed, the items in the store will remain visible to
all users in the catalog. In the same way, stoplisted buyers can view items in
a store and fill a cart. This is the same in other cases as well, such as geographical
restrictions due to tax collection, insufficient shipping methods, high minimum
buy, etc.
The block at checkout will not close the store, but stores may be closed independently
by the store owner at any time (of course), and all members will still be subject
to the Terms of Service, which means that selling privileges could be revoked
by the system automatically for completed NSSs or non-payment of fees.
Selling privileges could also be revoked manually by admin for a variety of reasons,
but revoking seller / buyer privileges is not part of the overall plan in handling
this situation with Russian members.

Allowing the stores to show stock means that buyers can contact sellers that
have what they want and if they cannot deal formally on bricklink, they can deal

"There is no rule that says you can't sell what you have listed on BrickLink
some other way. Just don't be trying to convert BrickLink orders into non-BrickLink

The point is if BL allows stock to be shown that cannot be bought through a normal
order, the buyer and seller will find a way.
So a Russian buyer sees a set they want in a Russian store, but they buyer cannot
buy and the seller cannot sell. But the buyer can contact the seller and ask
to buy it. And tge deal gets done, just without fees.

all for now.
|
|
Allowing the stores to show stock means that buyers can contact sellers that
have what they want and if they cannot deal formally on bricklink, they can deal
informally outside the bricklink order process.
|
Unsure of the point being made, but this might shine light on whichever:
"There is no rule that says you can't sell what you have listed on BrickLink
some other way. Just don't be trying to convert BrickLink orders into non-BrickLink
orders. That would be fee circumvention.”
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1213165
In any case, no need to look for demons, there's no shortage.

|
So I assumed, but was unsure. Here’s the pertinent bit of the conversation linked:
Member concerned about a payment method once used in a manner that would generate
fees for BL, now no longer available to them as a seller ~
“I sometimes sell items from my store to people in my local LUG and they pay
cash, but I pay the Bricklink fees. Since you are doing away with the cash option,
are you anticipating losing out on those fees, since all one would have to do
is tell the store owner "I want x, y, and z" and the store owner removes them
from their store and sells them for cash?”
Admin reply to the member's question of transactional fees ~
“There is no rule that says you can't sell what you have listed on BrickLink
some other way. Just don't be trying to convert BrickLink orders into non-BrickLink
orders. That would be fee circumvention.”

The most surreal aspect of this whole situation is that the we, the global BrickLink
community, are observing sellers from one country report on disruptions to their
businesses and we just have to pretend like we don't know the real reason
that these sellers are experiencing difficultly. Contrast this to the fact that
no one feels the need to tread lightly while talking about disruptions cause
by natural disasters. Meanwhile, I don't think we've seen a single post
from anyone in an adjacent country that is experiencing actual life-or-death
disruptions. The reason for that silence is morbidly obvious and it speaks volumes.
I understand the reasoning behind carefully moderating political topics but in
this instance the consequences of such moderation is troubling. Sanctions are
political and, by extension, so are their results. To be truly fair, any discussion
about the difficulties sellers in any sanctioned country are experiencing should
be taken up directly with BL admins/management and not discussed in the forum
at all. I realize this is an unprecedented situation (at least as far as BrickLink
is concerned), but this feels like it would be a more equitable reading of the
"no political discussion" rule. To continue to allow such posts normalizes a
situation that is far from normal and adds insult to injury by giving a platform
to comfortable, peripheral victims who are likely posting from a couch or a desk
while completely ignoring victims in actual, physical danger who probably have
much graver concerns right now.

My post got canceled and I said some things you did. Lego and Bricklink did the
right thing but we must be silent on the reasons at times. It seems to me unreasonable
to cancel posts that do no massage the message or feelings of the posters that
agree with Lego. I also used a quote by Jefferson and I guess that is off limits.

You raise a valid point, but it needs some backstory clarification. There appear
to be a viable (for lack of a better word) number of sellers in Russia. BrickLink
is a USA company, and is owned by a Danish multi-national company. The conflict
has caused sanctions, which as you say are political. One of the parties to the
conflict appears (based on reports) to be censoring information which is counter
to their narrative. Sellers in that country, perhaps buyers too, do not see the
situation with the fullness that the rest of us see it, they see/hear/read a
specifically curated narrative. The administrators (and moderators) here are
walking a fine line between taking sides, and trying to cleanly explain why these
actions have been applied, and doing so in a fashion that does not promote negative
dialog. BL is very likely in a difficult position which does not permit their
acceptance of fee payments, without triggering a violation of sanctions (albeit
on a small scale). There are many fine lines being walked to try to hold the
community together, while we all hope for an end to this madness.

Hi, what about seller's fees? PayPal , VISA and Mastercard alredy blocked
russian users. I've tried newly made UnionPay credit card to pay the fees
and the card doesn't worked out also. What happens with unpaid fees now?

They said they would inform you, so presumably you will get an email. Did they
send it already? I imagine they will just allow balances on Russian accounts
to remain until payments can be made again. You cannot add to the overall amount
owed if you cannot sell. It would be wrong to suspend accounts when they know
payments are not possible.

Yes, they sent the message. Here it is. Very simple:
"Hello,
Thank you for your message.
Please refer to our announcement regarding the matter.
Thank you for your understanding.

the fees.

My guess:
As they announced buying and selling will be deactivated in Russia, your shop
will be closed.
You probably can't pay the fees, you will owe them, but probably won't
have to pay them until you'll be able to.

Strictly it is the checkout function that is disabled rather than payment. They
don't want new orders generated (that could be paid some other way).

| Why was it necessary to disconnect Russian stores from Bricklink? Russian buyers
could buy in Russian stores directly paying for orders not through PayPal, but
on the seller’s card, and you have deprived everyone of this opportunity, thereby
setting people up only against yourself.
Do you also support Russophobia? Why are you interfering politics with constructor
sales?

But Russian sellers can't pay fees to Bricklink. That is probably the main
reason for disconnecting Russian to Russian orders.

We have paused shipments of products to Russia given the extensive disruption

We care deeply about the lasting impact on children and together with the LEGO

People in western countries do not hate Russians. Currently, most people seem
to feel sorry for them. We just really, really want the war to stop. That is
why there are sanctions. Bricklink stores are just collateral damage in this
effort.

PayPal, VISA, Mastercard and Western Union closed their services in Russia. UnionPay
don't work also. Russian Bricklink stores can't work properly and russian
buyers can't pay. There is only a way to pay by Bank Transfer but it is too
expensive.

Dear Bricklink Administration,
Please, answer about seller's fees. Will you terminate all accounts of sellers
from Russia? Is there any solution? Sellers from Russia can still send direct
bank transfer to european IBAN accounts. We can pay you if you have IBAN in some
european bank.
Best Regards, MIhail.

Hi Mlhail,
We are not terminating accounts. We explored a range of options, including whether
it was possible to keep stores open, but decided the best approach for now, given
that global payment platforms are unavailable, was to temporarily deactivate
stores.

Do you really believe all donated funds will be received by Ukrainian refuges\war
affected families? People be reasonable, all collected money will be spent on
gathering more military power, more weapons.. to continue the war. If you really
want to help those affected by war families, make your EU\US\RU government to
stop support this war, by sending soldiers, weapon, sanctions and so on. Messing
politics with LEGO won't help, this is ridiculous..

I want you to know. I am renting a house. when I got a call from an unfamiliar
family from Ukraine. They asked to book without money. I waited for them and
gave the keys for free, they live in my second house. a family unknown to me
with three children who fled from a terrible situation in their country. and
you tell me that some children are better than others. I believe that there
are no bad people. there are terrible things. I expect your refusal to sell
the goods and consider this a violation of my rights. I think you are not interested
in my rights as an honest buyer. you are interested in publicly making yourself
a virtue. like in the theatre. may God protect you. and only God is our judge.

| Ask your goverment why you must suffer!
| Dear administrator. Let me know why I must suffer. I have nothing to do with
the problems you describe. I am an honest buyer and I want to buy your product.
If you think that the problem is in logistics. Goods come from Hong Kong and
have no difficulties at customs. Why can't I give my son a birthday present?
Why did I work for many months and save up for a gift that you don't want
to sell me?

The BrickLink team

Because the many western countries have imposed financial and trade sanctions
against Belarus because of your government's support for Russia and their
invasion of Ukraine. Importantly, PayPal have stopped operating in Russia and
Belarus because of the financial sanctions, so there are no payment options to
pay fees.

PayPal works in Belarus even with local credit cards from banks that are not
under sanctions, so no problem with payment. I think the real reason is that
Lego left our market, so Bricklink left it as a part of Lego group.
|
I thought paypal had stopped operating in Belarus as Western governments have
applied the same financial sanctions on Belarus as Russia. And yes, LEGO pulled
out of both countries, as have many other Western based international companies.

The Belarusian foreign minister confirmed last week that Belarus is doing joint
exercises with Russian troops building up in Belarus. Russia is freely using
Belarusian air space for missile and drone attacks on Ukraine. I don't think
YOU or any of your friends are to blame, but your government is entirely allied
with Russia in this.
