As the designer of this set I chose to call this minifig "the merchand". Or
you might call him the smuggler. I dislike the name "pirate" because a pirate
wouldn't fit in this castle theme. I chose the eye patch and hood as a reference
to some of the wolfpack minifigures that in my childhood always teamed up with
the forestmen.

How about brigand? I agree "pirate" probably isn't the right term.
