| I've noticed that there are parts, particularly Minifigure heads like #3626cpb0496,
which are not listed as appearing in any sets by BrickLink. So then, what is
their purpose?
Are they production errors or are they produced for MOCs?

| Pieces like that head are alternates found in sets. They have a link (related
items) to the other versions of them that originally came in those sets
|

There are also parts from build a figure, especially during covid Legoland locations
around the US were selling bulk build a fig parts.

Minifigure heads are usually included in minifigure inventories (surprise  )
which cannot have alternate items, and we don't create new minifigure entries
for different head stud types. However, if anyone finds the alternate head in
a set, it can be added as an alternate part to the set inventory.
Here is an example:

Parts: Minifigure, Head |
was included, therefore it does not appear in any inventory.
